British SuperBike 2002 - Round 11 - Oulton

Steve Hislop powered to the fastest ever lap of Oulton Park circuit to put his MonsterMob Ducati on pole for the eleventh round of the British Superbike Championship.

The 40 year old Flying Scot smashed a second off his own record as he scorched to an amazing 1m 30.664s Superpole, with an average speed of 109.94mph around the 2.76 mile circuit.

Hislop currently leads the title chase by 48 points ahead of Sean Emmett and was the dominant force throughout qualifying, comfortably outpacing the rest of the field and though he admitted to "a couple of moments on his flying lap" he was well please with his performance.

"I was hungry for results at Cadwell Park last Monday and took a winning double there. I am just as determined here - I want to take the Championship by the scruff of the neck and win it," said Hislop.

Michael Rutter, currently third place in the standings, starts alongside Hislop at the front of the grid. The Renegade Ducati rider recorded a time of 1m 31.301s, 0.4 seconds faster than the reigning Champion John Reynolds.

However, it was disappointment for Virgin Mobile Aiwa Yamaha's Emmett, the Weybridge-based rider had a heavy crash during the morning qualifying and could only return to the track after a pain-killing jab.

He was eighth fastest on combined time, but a lap of 1m33.620s relegated him to thirteenth place on the leaderboard and with it a fourth row start.
