Josh Forster got the run off the line as Clarke bogged down a little before dipping the clutch again but Clarke nosed ahead in turn 1 but Forster pushed him right back to keep the lead. Forster dislocated his shoulder recently during testing and is strapped up heavily but managed to hold Clarke off for a couple of laps. But that is all it took for the previous Australian Champion, Clarke, to take the lead. But Forster didn't let him escape. Caleb Stalder and Dustin Goldsmith were having a good tussle for third, David Anthony also in the fight. On lap 5 Josh Forster ended up in the dirt, tried to straighten his bike up enough to remount but had lost too much time to make a difference. His bike was lying in the dirt in a slightly dangerous spot, but in another position on the track a rider had gone under the fence so the red flag came out and the race stopped. The result was declared and the results were taken from the end of the previous lap.
