Kevin Curtain took the
early lead from Jamie Stauffer, Shannon Johnson, Deon Coote and Shaun
Geronomi. But Geronomi had a big crash on the exit of turn 8 but
looked relatively unhurt, lucky as it was quite a big one. Reece
Bancell was a strong fifth for most of the race before coming unstuck in
the final laps. Brent George and Cameron Donald had been rubbing
fairings for most of the race before George came down with a couple of
laps remaining. The same fate befell Scott Charlton. Jamie Stauffer took the race right to Curtain by slipping past him on numerous occasions, but it was never long before Curtain got him straight back. Shannon Johnson was rushing in to turn 1 a lot faster that everyone else due to some severely late braking, but even though he was never more than a bike length or two behind Curtain and Stauffer he did not get in to a position to seriously challenge the duo in front of him. Kevin Curtain took the win by the narrowest of margins from Jamie Stauffer and in doing so boosted his points tally to an unassailable lead. Kevin Curtain is the 2002 FX SuperSport Champion.
