Jamie Stauffer threatened early before coming to grief on the exit of turn four. Shannon Johnson tried hard to challenge Kevin Curtain and was never more than a couple of bike lengths behind but the combination of Kevin Curtain and the Yamaha looked to be giving Kevin the advantage off the turns. Even though the top speed of the machines looked fairly even.
