Earlier this Alex Criville had his first ride on the Team D’Antín Yamaha YZR500 earlier this week at the Almería circuit. A bout of 'flu kept the 1999 500cc World Champion a little under the weather for the earlier part of the 3-day test but Japanese rider Norick Abe got plenty of track time in.

Alex Crivillé comments: "The first winter tests with my new team, I had very good feeling and a positive balance. I’m happy with it. I was interested to gain experience with the bike and the team, and I have achieved my objective. We have worked in my accommodation to the bike, with the team staff and the technicians. YAMAHA technical staff came to the test, and I could work together with them to transmit my sensations on the bike, and we will work hard to have the best material, and a competitive bike for the season. I achieved a good improvement, and I expect in Valencia, where the next winter tests will take place, I will have some references to compare my results. The atmosphere in the team is very good".

Norick Abe comments: "I completed 70 laps to the track, working in the set-up of the bike. My feeling with the new bike is very good, and I could ride my way with good results. Today I attacked to the record of the track on a 500, and I achieved it. For me it is only an anecdote, but I like to be the new referent on this track."

Team owner Luis d’Antín: “It’s good to begin with a good improvement. The atmosphere in the team is excellent, and gives to us the perfect motivation to begin the season with good feeling”.
