Due to the unavailability of Jerez due to work being conducted on the track, Repsol YPF YAMAHA Team d'Antín has preferred to remain in Spain to continue its pre-season tests. Riders Alex Crivillé and Norick Abe have continued their setting-up work with the YZR 500 Yamahas.

Both riders have covered a high number of laps again.  Alex Crivillé tried diverse set-up configurations to get a handle on how to tune his new bike while his team-mate Norick Abe continued the tyre testing he commenced at Valencia.

Alex Crivillé comments: "I’m happy with today's tests, because I’m seeing my own improvement. We have tested many set-up, because to me the most important is to arrive to the first race with the maximum knowledge of the bike, to know what can I get from it. As much Norick as me are riding many laps very fast, it is good to become confident with the bike."

Norick Abe comments: "Today I have completed 83 laps, testing mainly different kind of tyres. In the last day we were in Almería I achieved the best ever 500 lap time of the track. I didn't think that it could be improved, but I got it today again. I am very happy because with the 2002 Yamaha the things come easily. Although today has been a very hard day and I’m a bit tired, tomorrow I will do my best again to follow the work."
