Toni Elias got away in front of the pack but Marco Melandri soon gathered him up. Casey Stoner was running 9th in the early stages of the race, Russell Holland 22nd. Fonsi Nieto got the better of Elias to take 2nd place on lap while Stoner got pushed back to 10th. Nieto sat behind Melandri for most of the race before really throwing down a challenge on the final lap where the lead changed at almost every corner. Melandri led on to the main straight for the final time and crossed the line seemingly level with Nieto but the timers told the story and Melandri was credited with the win by 7-thousandths of a second. And of course with that win he now has an unassailable lead in the championship which makes him the youngest ever winner of the 250 World Championship. Casey Stoner took a 10th place finish while Russell Holland put in a great performance to be the last runner home in 20th position.
