Kanemoto Racing arrive in Barcelona ahead of the Grand Prix of Catalunya on Sunday 16th June, aiming to step up from a plateau which has seen the Team steadily claim 12 points from the last four races.

Following the disappointing 14th place finish for the Team at the Italian Grand Prix, a fortnight ago, Kanemoto Racing's Dutch-rider Jurgen van den Goorbergh rejoined the Team in the Czech Republic, testing their two-stroke Honda NSR500 at the Brno circuit.

New compounds were tested on both front and rear tyres and again provided a valuable data-collecting opportunity as the Team embark on their first season of racing following a two-year development programme with their tyre-partner Bridgestone.

Team Owner and Manager Erv Kanemoto was pleased with progress made at the test and confident that the information so far gathered at the opening five rounds of the 16-round series is moving the Team toward the top-ten finish that so far has eluded them in 2002.

"We are in a development stage and as with all development work the key element is the patience required as we gather test and race data. The more information we log, the closer we move to an increased level of performance," relayed Erv Kanemoto from the Team's Belgium Headquarters, pleased also with the consistency the Team have found. "We have found a consistency at the races, which will prove vital in moving up to the next level. We are finishing races and winning points and hope to continue this in Barcelona where we have tested quite extensively."

The 4.727kms Catalunya Circuit in the Montmelo district of the Region's capital has hosted the Team during testing in their two-year programme with Bridgestone and pre-season in the lead-up to their inaugural entry into the 2002 World MotoGP Championship. Characterised by its long start-finish straight, along with a good mix of slow and fast corners, Jurgen van den Goorbergh is also looking forward to the second of three races held in Spain this year.

"I'm feeling totally prepared, feel good physically and looking forward to racing at the circuit I've had some good results at including a pole position in 1999. I don't think a repeat of that is possible when Qualifying against the four-strokes but the two-stroke machines could do well on the long, fast corners there. The atmosphere is also always very good, especially in the big stadium complex," said Jurgen van den Goorbergh following the Brno test.

Kanemoto Racing, 12th placed in the Team championship and Jurgen van den Goorbergh, currently 18th in the riders tables are looking forward to racing in front of Spain's huge MotoGP following which last year boasted a combined trackside-attendance of over half-a-million fans at the countries three 2001 events.

The circuit is situated 20kms north of Barcelona in the Montmelo district of the Catalan capital's. The 4.727km track hosted its first Motorcycle Grand Prix in 1992, the Grand Prix of Europe. The circuit, which also hosts the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix, boasts superb facilities for both teams and spectators with a new tier being added to the main grandstand on the pit straight this year, adjacent to the circuit's long start and finish straight.
