Fine weather at Donington for round 8 of the 2002
championship with Valentino Rossi once again on pole. Checa got the run off the line and led them through turn 1, Rossi right behind, then Biaggi in 3rd. McWilliams was running well before retiring from the race a few laps in. Carlos Checa had a near highside a third of the way through the race when the back snapped very sideways. The race was fairly constant up front with Rossi right o the tail of Checa, while Biaggi watched on from a few bike lengths behind. On lap 18 of the 30 lap race Checa lost the front and slid off the track. Rossi had been maintaining station right on his tail for the whole race but Checa's front end lose handed him the lead and a couple of second gap over Biaggi who was promoted to 2nd by Checa's demise. Checa rejoined the track in 11th but then went on to retire. McCoy was getting back in to the swing of things after his extended break with injury, performing his trademark huge sideways slides around a few of the very fast turns. Kenny Roberts once again started well but drifted back through the field. Rossi went on to take another clear win. Not much overtaking action happened in the race but the riders were pushing hard enough to provide the entertainment without the passing.

| Casey Stoner
finished 11th in 250 GP - "I am very
happy this race is finished as I have had a very difficult weekend, trying
to get the bike set up for the race. My crash did not help
this, as we lost a lot of set up time. I have never felt
comfortable at Donington and this weekend was no different. Thanks to the
team for all their efforts and I will be trying
for a better result in Germany."
