New Zealand Road Racing Championships - Round 1 - Preview

This weekend the cream of New Zealand's road racers converge on Pukekohe Park, (south of Auckland), to contest round one of the Motorcycling New Zealand Road Race Championship.  Also being contested at this meeting will the Tourist Trophies for each road race class.

The quest for supremacy in the newly formed Production Superbike class will see, current Open Sports Production Champion Christchurch's Andrew Stroud line up against current Superbike Champion, Kawerau's Tony Rees.

Stroud, riding a Suzuki GSX1000R, won the season opener the "Quality Hotel" 4-Hour Endurance Championship last weekend at Manfeild, while Rees second last week will campaign a Yamaha R1 prepared by the Australian "Radar's Team Yamaha".

The 600 Sport Production class will see young up and comers Palmerston North's Dennis Charlett and Oamaru's Brad Selfe do battle will the seasoned Shaun Harris all on Suzuki GSX-R 600s.
