Honda’s Karl Muggeridge finished up eighth fastest in this afternoon’s opening qualifying session for round 11 of the World Supersport championship here at the Assen circuit in Holland.

The gritty Australian bounced back from a heavy fall in the morning’s free practice session to grab a place on the provisional second row of the grid for Sunday’s 16-lap race.

Muggeridge said: “It was a big fall this morning and I took a bang on the head and wasn’t sure if I was going to make this afternoon’s qualifying session. Once I was out on the track I felt comfortable enough to chase a good qualifying time.

"We are still struggling big time with the chassis, like in Oschersleben, and are far away from a reasonable good race set-up, hopefully we will get a bit of dry track time tomorrow to sort out some good setting for the CBR.

"In the qualifying session we also had a little bit of a problem with the rear suspension and lost some time,  which in the end probably cost me the chance of one more fast lap on a soft compound tyre.”

Today’s session was dominated by the Dutch Ten Kate Honda bike’s, which made the most out of their advantage from having tested here at the new track at Assen.

Between provisional pole und 4th place are more than 1.5 seconds, very unusual for a Supersport practice where you normally find around 18 riders within one second.
