Paolo Casoli was fastest in the wet morning warm-up
session by nearly two seconds so has to start favourite on this very wet
track. Kevin Curtain could be a dark horse though as his
incredible smooth application of the throttle of which he is renowned
pays dividens on a slippery surface. Katsuaki Fujiwara took the lead in turn 1 from MacPherson and Casoli, Vermeulen 4th. MacPherson shot to the lead shortly after, as Casoli also picked up the pace and slotted in to 2nd. Casoli in to the lead as they started lap 2 and started to make a gap on MacPherson immediately. Pitt languishing in 20th. Whitham through on Fujiwara for 3rd. Casoli had made a 2.4 second lead by the start of lap 3. James Ellison crashed out at this stage of the race. Whitham picked up the pace and made his way through to the lead. Pitt went down in the grass after working his way up to 14th but rejoined the race in 29th place, and retired a lap later. Cogan was in a clear 3rd at half race distance before crashing out. Whitham and Casoli safely out in front. Muggeridge quite a way behind in an excellent 3rd place. Whitham and Casoli then ran nose-to-tail for lap after lap before Casoli took the lead from Whitham for a few corners before crashing. Casoli remounted in the really worsening conditions. Jamie Whitham then lost the rear entering the main straight and slid out on the grass, he remounted and got going again. The red flag came out then to stop the race at just over two-thirds race distance which means the result is declared.
