Honda’s Karl Muggeridge took his first podium finish of the year with
third place in today’s sixth round of the World Supersport championship
here at Silverstone in England. Muggas was looking like the potential race winner as both Yamaha Belgarda riders ahead of him went down. But heavy rain left race officials with no option but to cut the race short from the scheduled 19 laps to 13. Karl knowing that he could have been declared the winner reckons it was a sensible decision to stop the race as it just got too dangerous to go around the 5’094 meters long British track. ”It was very difficult to hang on out there. By the time the heavy rain started to fall we were racing through huge puddles. But I’m very happy with third place and finally getting on that rostrum this year!” The bike felt really good and I got confident to race around in the wet. I actually really enjoyed it, especially as I’ve never really got a lot of wet track time and I haven’t been very good at it so far.” “My start was ok, I didn’t wanna push it too hard at the beginning and just wanted to get away good and safe. Then I got stuck behind a group of four riders and I couldn’t see anything in the water spray coming up of their bikes, so I decided I had to make a move and pass them” Due to the red flag Whitham and Casoli got reinstated to the results, as the positions from the lap before the flag gets out are relevant for the standings. Britt Jamie Whitham, who was leading most of the 13 laps after having an excellent start from 17th position, won the race. Second place took his team-mate Paolo Casoli.
