Katsuaki Fujiwara got the jump and led them through
turn 1 from Pitt and Foret. Rob Frost fell at turn 2.
Vermeulen was in 7th, Curtain 8th, Muggeridge 9th. Foret slotted through on Pitt at the start of lap 2 to take 2nd. Muggeridge was the fastest man on lap 2 and trying to work his way forward from 5th. Foret took the lead as they started lap 3, the Ten Kate machine demonstrating it's horsepower advantage once again. Muggeridge up to 4th, Foret fastest man on lap 3. Muggeridge got under Andrew Pitt for 3rd at the end of the back straight. Vermeulen 8th, Curtain 10th. Muggeridge fell but managed to remount after losing around a dozen places. Pitt also lost a few places on that lap. Foret and Fujiwara broke away a little to battle for the lead. Vermeulen, Whitham and Curtain started having a great battle for 7th. Chambon set the fastest lap on lap 11 to close the gap on the Foret/Fujiwara battle for the lead at half race distance. Pitt set the fastest lap next time around but still in 5th place. Pitt finally got through on Kellner for 4th with 5 laps to run. Foret broke away from Fujiwara a little after setting the fastest lap. Fujiwara and Chambon still 2nd and 3rd but Pitt working hard to work his way up to challenge them. Andrew Pitt tried to out-brake Chambon at the end of the straight and nearly ended up on the ground. Vermeulen got through on Whitham with 3 laps to go for 6th spot. Foret some 2.5 seconds ahead of Fujiwara, Chambon and Pitt with 2 laps to run. Pitt got Chambon for 3rd with 1.5 laps left, the best he can hope for is 2nd if he can get Fujiwara as Foret is way too far out in front. On the final lap Pitt tried to get Fujiwara for 2nd but the Japanese rider held on and Pitt took the final step on the podium. ------ Revised Results At post race scrutineering Fabien Foret's machine was found to have a rear wheel spindle fitted that did not conform to World SuperSport regulations. Results were modified as such and Fujiwara promoted to the win and Andrew Pitt to 2nd. Other machines to be excluded included Jamie Whitham and Paolo Casoli, whose machines failed to start in the scrutineering bay. "To be honest, I'd have preferred to have taken second place on the track, rather than in the scrutineering bay," said Andrew Pitt, when informed of Foret's exclusion. "It's a real shame for Fabien, as he rode a great race today. For sure he'll be out to make amends at Misano, as will Casoli and Whitham. I guess we're in for a tough race next time out."
