Gregorio Lavilla is still suffering from injuries sustained at Laguna Seca less than two weeks ago and was unable to push at 100 per cent in today's two sessions, so his 11th place is more than creditable.

pole today was set by runaway series leader Troy Bayliss. His lap of 1:26.398 was nearly half a second inside the official lap record, set by America Ben Bostrom (Ducati) in 2001. Second fastest today is Colin Edwards (Honda), with Ruben Xaus (Ducati) third and Neil Hodgson (Ducati) fourth.

GREGORIO LAVILLA 11th - "It was hard work out there today and because of my injuries I was not able to ride hard for more then about two or three laps at a time. The worst thing was that I was not able to move around the bike like I normally would and that prevented me going faster. But the good news is that I can ride! Today we started off with the bike like we had at Laguna, but it didn't feel right so we changed the settings to what we running at Misano. I am lucky that my injuries are on my left side, because at Brands there are only three left turns, so my injuries are not getting any worse. I hope I can ride a bit harder tomorrow and then be in better shape for Sunday."
