Goddard scored four championship points for his result in the first of the two 28-lap races on his three-cylinder Benelli Tornado 900. He was forced to retire from the second race in the 11th round of the series because of engine problems.

The 38-year-old from Wollongong has now scored championship points in seven of the 14 races he has contested this season.

American Colin Edwards won both races at Oschersleben on a Castrol Honda, with Australia's Troy Bayliss recording two second placings on an Infostrada Ducati. Bayliss leads the championship with 481 points with Edwards second on 452. The next round of the championship is at Assen in the Netherlands on September 8.

PETER GODDARD QUOTES: "In the first race I made quite a good start and ran at a good pace to finish 12th, our best result for Benelli. Our race set-up was quite good and we improved it for the second race to be a little more consistent. It looked as though we would finish 12th again, but the engine failed with seven laps to go as I was closing in on (Lucio) Pedercini. They have some new parts to test. Hopefully they put the new oil sump on the bike for Assen as I think this could help us quite a bit."
