Edwards, the last rider to go in Superpole, rocketed to his fifth pole position of the year aboard the Castrol SP-2 machine.

"I was a little bit edgy on the lap," admitted Edwards. "But that's because tomorrow is so important, I didn't want to do anything stupid."

He added: "I don't think there's any doubting that the test we had here last week has helped us get a good race set-up ahead of everyone else. But then this is motor sport, anything can happen in tomorrow's races.

"Everyone seems to think I might have some special strategy for tomorrow but I'm just out to do the same as I've been doing in the past few rounds and take two wins."
