- Bayliss will do this easy
now as long as he makes no mistakes, Edwards has had to settle for 2nd.
Bayliss takes his first Phillip Island World SuperBike win and the first three
races of the 2002 season
- Last lap - Bayliss now
has pulled out 1.4 seconds over Edwards
- Troy has a little moment
on the first part of the right hander after MG, collects it nicely though, and
crosses the line with 2 laps to run with still a 1.1 second gap over Edwards
- Edwards now just over a
full second behind Bayliss. It is a real hard ask but Edwards has done
the most fast laps around here this weekend so it still could be possible
- 4 laps to run - Edwards
ran real deep in to Siberia, which has allowed Bayliss to escape a little
- People that seem to be
out of the race for one reason or another - Chili, Parkes, Foti, Haga, Stey,
Maxwell
- Bayliss has pulled out a
tiny bit on Edwards again now, but still only a couple of tenths between them
- Still Bayliss just
keeping his now in front of Edwards. Xaus now on his own in 3rd some 3
seconds back. Hodgson and Bostrom are another 8 seconds back battling on for
4th
- Great battle going on for
6th between Toseland, Izutsu and Lavilla
- Bayliss had a little
slide coming on to the straight that time which lost him a tenth or so,
Edwards right on him now
- Still Bayliss, Edwards.
- Chambon in to the pits.
Haga seems to have retired
- Bayliss still leading,
Edwards pulled a couple of tenths back on that lap though with the best lap so
far of the race, 1m33.38. Xaus has dropped off a little from the leading
duo
- Chili in the pits
- Bayliss pulled a couple
of tenths out on Edwards that time around, Bayliss down to a 1m33.4 while
Edwards only recorded a 1m33.8 on the same lap
- Half race distance now,
still Bayliss by the narrowest of margins over Edwards. Xaus in 3rd,
Hodgson 4th, Bostrom 5th, Toseland 6th, Lavilla 7th, Izutsu 8th, Walker 9th,
Chili 10th. Steve Martin 12th, Broc Parkes 13th.
- Edwards right on to
Bayliss in to MG, but Bayliss gets the better run out
- Still Bayliss, Edwards,
Xaus. Less than half a second cover the trio
- Haga off the track but
okay and will rejoin, unless he has done an engine or some other mechanical
defect ?
- Xaus fastest on the next
lap, 1m33.59, Bayliss still leading from Edwards and Xaus though
- Down the main straight
now, Bayliss and Edwards both did 1m33.7s that lap, Edwards marginally quicker
but Bayliss still in front
- Bayliss holding the lead
through turn one but Edwards got him in turn two, only to be passed back
again, Bayliss leads through Honda Corner, Xaus ran real deep in to Honda but
gathers it up and really lost no ground on Edwards
- Xaus was the fastest man
on lap 6, 1m33.754
- Bayliss under Edwards in
turn one, Edwards tried to get him back in to Siberia but couldn't make it
stick
- Lap 6 of 22 - Edwards
still in front of Bayliss and Xaus
- Xaus right with Bayliss
and Edwards now, Xaus looks his normal untidy self though, twitching and
sliding front and rear

turn one but can't quite squeeze through
- Edwards still hold the
lead, but Bayliss still right on him, Xaus not far behind either
- Bayliss gets the tow down
the straight but Edwards holds him off in to turn one. Lap 5 of 22
