Castrol Honda's Colin Edwards ended the opening day's action in second
place after the first qualifying session for round three of the World
Superbike championship here at Kyalami, South Africa. Edwards held the provisional pole position until the dying seconds of the one-hour session when he was pipped by championship leader Troy Bayliss. Edwards said: "I'm more than happy with today. I always knew that the SP-2 would be strong here and the way Troy's going at the moment he's going to give anyone a battle - it will get serious tomorrow." Edwards continued: "We've no real drama with the set-up of the machine but after the testing we did here in January that should be the case. Our only real concern is the race tyres. "Michelin are working hard but we're keeping a close check on the temperature as it's due to drop on Sunday. The last tyre I tried, at the end of today's session, was as good as I've had around here."
