Troy Bayliss - “What can I say? It’s been another
incredible weekend for me here. I expected a good result but to win like
that is just fantastic. We had a perfect package, my Infostrada Ducati
has been really good and my Michelins were great, I just couldn’t put a
foot wrong. In race 1 the first three laps were just crazy so I decided
to stay out of trouble and then attack after a few laps. My last lap
slide was nothing really but I did make a mistake in the chicane when I
lost a second and a half. I knew Colin was there but just managed to
pull out a gap in the final few laps. In the second race I thought it
was Colin behind me for a long time but then I looked behind and it was
Ruben, he’s like a bulldog, he doesn’t give up. I had to do some
consistent laps and eventually I got a little break and that was
enough”. Colin Edwards - "We made a change
to the rear tyre width from race one, making it wider and it did the
job. My race time was four seconds faster than race one which should
have been enough. But Bayliss and Xaus upped their pace in the second
race. "I got the extra time I needed but we're working our socks off and
still not winning. I'm feeling very frustrated with it all at the
moment. "We've got a great machine in the SP-2, great tyres from
Michelin but it's just not happening for me right now. I suppose if
someone had told me I'd have five podiums from three rounds and not be
closer to the title lead than I am I wouldn't have believed them. "What
Troy (Bayliss) is doing has never been done before. We've got a lot of
racing left this year and I know we're capable of winning this title.
Let's see how Sugo goes for us?"
Noriyuki Haga - "Next to Australia, we've made a great leap forward, but
it's still not enough. As long as my tyres held out, I was unstoppable:
now we've got to work to make sure we can maintain the same pace for the
entire contest. The tune's going to change at Sugo."
Ruben Xaus - “Today’s races were very hard for me, because of the
incident with Chili in the warm-up. I feel really sorry about his injury
because it wasn’t anyone’s fault. In race 1 I had to work hard to find a
way past Haga, he wasn’t making it easy for me. I braked next to him,
went further into the corner, then pulled out a gap and finished in the
points. I felt much better in the second race after I used a different
sprocket to Troy just to try to have better speed in the corners but it
wasn’t enough. I think he was waiting for me in the end and then he just
pulled away. I was power-sliding already so I settled for second and get
some more points. I’m really happy with the weekend because starting
from the third row it wasn’t easy but I need to clean up my Superpole
act! There was nothing I could do against Troy today, he needs to give
up racing!”.
Ben Bostrom - “There’s not much I can say really, unfortunately it’s
another race out there. I had a great battle with Haga in race 1 but had
no problem passing him. Those first few laps were pretty hectic but we
were just unable to keep with those other guys. The bike’s perfect, I
feel like I’m riding quite well, but for the moment it’s still
frustrating not to be able to race for the win. Not much to add in race
2, the bike might have been too high because the rear wheel was spinning
a lot. Hopefully at Sugo I stand a chance of winning”.
Neil Hodgson - Race 1 - “Obviously I would have liked to make it onto
the podium. But the eleven points that I got from that race only serve
to strengthen my position in the world championship. I enjoyed the race
but it was a little frustrating. Edwards forced me wide at one point and
that cost me quite a lot of time, but I had a good old dice with Haga
and came out on top in the end. This result hasn’t done me any harm and
I’m still six points clear of Haga in the points and only three behind
Bostrom. The HM Plant Ducati and my Dunlop tyres feel spot-on, so I
won’t really make any changes for race two – I’ll just try and wring a
bit more out of it." - Race 2 - “I can’t really complain about fourth
place in a race like that. The pace was incredibly hot and being able to
maintain that pace over race distance has given me a lot more confidence
in the HM Plant Ducati. I’m a little disappointed not to have taken at
least third – if there had been another couple of laps left in the race
I know that I could have passed Edwards. That said, this makes it six
races and six good point scoring finishes and what I’ve learned here
will help me perform even better for round four at Sugo. Another
positive thing is that I won the battle with Bostrom – that means that
he isn’t far ahead of me in the points and neither is Xaus for that
matter.”
James Toseland - Race 1 - “I equalled my best ever World Superbike
finish, so that is a great result for me. Although it was a bit of a
lonely race, to finish behind Neil and over eight seconds ahead of the
next placed rider is pretty good. The HM Plant Ducati was working really
well and I knew that it would do what I asked it to, so I just want to
get back out there for race two and see if I can improve some more.” -
Race 2 - “I enjoyed that race more than the first, I would have liked to
have at least equalled my sixth place from race one, but we changed the
tyre pressure in-between races and I’m not sure it was the best move.
Even so, to come away from Kyalami with 18 points is a decent result and
if I can continue to rack up double figure race points, I’ll be happy.”
Gregorio Lavilla - "Pedercini was a nuisance because he has a fast bike,
but he rides slowly in the corners. I tried to pass him many times and
on the downhill chicane he made a mistake and I was able to get by. By
the time we approached Wesbank corner at the top of the hill, I was
about half a bike length ahead of him. He came across me and his
handlebar hit me in the ribcage and both of us went down - it was so
unnecessary. Before the crash, the bike was behaving like it had been
all weekend, but I was catching Walker and I was thinking about a top
six place - then boom! In race two, I made an OK start - considering my
grid position - and everything was fine and I was catching Toseland.
Then, after about six laps, the bike started losing grip and I couldn't
go any quicker. Borja came past me and I tried to hold on to him, but it
just wasn 't possible. Later I had a couple of really big slides, so I
thought it would be better to stay onboard and ride for some points. At
the moment we have a problem that is proving hard to solve. After four
hours of qualifying we should be nearer to the solution, but it 's not
working out that way and none of us are sure why. My only consolation
this weekend is that I didn 't get hurt in the fall and that the bike
went round Kyalami quicker then last year."
