Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada) and Ben Bostrom (Ducati L&M) will start
tomorrow’s South African Round of the World Superbike Championship from
second and third on the grid as Colin Edwards (Honda) sets his second
successive pole position. Ruben Xaus (Ducati Infostrada) will line up on
row 3 in eleventh position. Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada) set second-quickest time of 1’41.412 around the 4.263 km circuit, less than a tenth of a second off Edwards’ pace, but said that he was pleased to start the race from the front row of the grid. “I do want to be fastest whenever I can but it’s quite handy to be on the front row here” declared Bayliss. “I’ll certainly do everything possible to continue my winning streak tomorrow but if not then I’ll just take what I can get. The end of my Superpole lap was perfect, it was in the middle that I got a bit out of shape. It’s the fastest I’ve gone this weekend but I’m a bit depressed because it’s a long way off what we did here in testing. The track conditions are similar to what they were before and so its difficult to understand why. Maybe tomorrow things will just be perfect. If they are long races then I know they are going to suit me”. Third quickest time of 1’41.453 for Bostrom (Ducati L&M) in Superpole after the Californian had set the fastest qualifying lap in the morning session. “My Superpole lap was strange because I felt fast but then I saw the time after Colin’s lap and I wasn’t so happy” declared Ben. “I had no idea what Troy had done but I knew at least one of those guys had beat me out of pole. Congratulations to them! I really like this Kyalami track, and the tyres are working much better than at the previous races. I’m going to try as hard as I can to win, I just know I can put the bike up front, give the guys as much hassle as possible and hopefully stand on top of that box tomorrow”. Xaus (Ducati Infostrada) concentrated on not making any mistakes during his Superpole lap after going fourth quickest in the morning, but the young Spanish rider was disappointed to find that he would be starting tomorrow’s races from row 3 after setting eleventh fastest time in 1’43.054. “I should work much harder in Superpole because I know I can go fast. I have shown that all weekend” declared Ruben. “I need to be able to do this because I’m losing the races because of Superpole. You can’t start from row 3 and hope to do battle with the leaders. My preparations for the weekend are not yet finished, we still need to do a few more things in the morning because the bike is moving around a bit too much”.
