World SuperBike Championship - Round 6 - Silverstone Saturday - SuperPole / Grid - Castrol Honda Report May 25th, 2002 |

Castrol Honda's Colin Edwards will start from second place on the grid
in Sunday's sixth round of the World Superbike championship after a
thrilling Superpole final qualifying session here at Silverstone, GB
today. Edwards held pole position until the dying seconds of the 50-minute session before title rival Troy Bayliss lapped just 0.1s faster. Edwards said: 'That was fun. We should do that all the time with the 12 laps format. It's great to know you can put a time in, sit in the garage while the rain comes and goes, and then go out and put another fast lap in.' After achieving his fifth front row start from six rounds, Edwards continued: 'I've really got to like Silverstone and I don't really care what the weather forecast says for tomorrow, whether it rains or not I'm ready. 'We've got a good race set-up and I only just missed out on pole position because I pushed a one-lap Superpole rear tyre to three laps. It's ironic that, even with a wet Superpole, it's still Troy (Bayliss) and me at the head of the grid. 'I think this championship is going to be a year-long tussle and I want a couple of wins tomorrow to throw it back in my favour a little.' |
