Ben Bostrom got a flyer of a start and led them
through turn 1 in front of Bayliss and Edwards. Edwards took
Bayliss for 2nd in turn 2 but a few corners later Bayliss took that 2nd
spot back. The little first lap battle between Bayliss and Edwards
allowed Bostrom to eke out a couple of bike lengths on them. At
the start of lap 2 Bostrom had half a second on Bayliss. Steve
Martin 11th, Broc Parkes 12th, Peter Goddard 18th. Troy Bayliss was really putting the big effort in to try and get past Bostrom but the American seemed to have the edge on the brakes. But Bayliss got him on the exit of a turn after Bostrom was forced to momentarily get out of the throttle due to a slide. Lap 3 of 24. Xaus 4th, Haga 5th. Edwards took Bostrom for 2nd. A lap later Ruben Xaus relegated Ben Bostrom to 4th, Bostrom losing a place a lap. Ruben Xaus then continued his charge and took Colin Edwards for 2nd on lap 7 after setting a new lap record. By half race distance Xaus had closed down Bayliss to a bike length and started to show the reigning world champion a wheel on the entry in to a couple of turns. Xaus took the lead at the end of the main straight on lap 14, but Bayliss got him back a few corners later. The battle allowing Edwards to close them a little, 1.5 second behind in 3rd. Ben Bostrom still the fastest bike on the circuit through the top speed traps, 280kph. Bayliss upped the pace again and/or Xaus dropped his pace a little as Bayliss escaped away with the lead while Xaus fell back in to the clutches of Colin Edwards who took that 2nd spot on lap 19 of 24. Edwards then left Xaus behind but couldn't catch Bayliss who took another win.
