Not even having to do a last second switch to the
spare bike could upset Troy Bayliss' unstoppable charge at Misano for
race 1 and in all likelihood we are due up for another such showing in
this race 2. No such problems in race 2 for Bayliss as he made the
grid in the conventional manner. Neil Hodgson led them through turn 1 from Colin Edwards and Troy Bayliss. Bostrom 4th, Xaus 5th, Haga 6th, Toseland 7th. That order up the front remained the same for the whole of lap 1. James Toseland scored a stop-go penalty for a jump start. Steve Martin 13th, Peter Goddard 16th and Broc Parkes 17th. Colin Edwards got through on Neil Hodgson for the lead on lap 2 but Hodgson came right back at him a few corners later. Edwards took the lead again early on lap 5. Bayliss remaining in 3rd and not figuring in the battle for the lead yet but started to challenge Hodgson for 2nd on the next lap. Troy Bayliss got Hodgson for 2nd on lap 6 as Xaus again crashed out of the race. Troy Bayliss then took the lead from Edwards on the next lap but the Texan did not give up easily and took the lead right back a couple of corners later. Edwards and Bayliss then built a small 1 second gap on the third placed Hodgson over the next few laps. Haga and Bostrom a further couple of seconds down. But my mid race Haga had dropped off Bostrom and was starting to challenge Hodgson for 3rd. He then took that 3rd place from Hodgson at the final turn on lap 14. Colin Edwards still holding off Troy Bayliss lap after lap. All riders sliding around at nearly every corner in the very hot conditions. Track temperature is said to be over 50°c. Bayliss took the lead on lap 15 from Edwards but could not break away from the American. Edwards got him back again a couple of laps later. Then he made some sort of hand gesture at Troy Bayliss, maybe indicating something along the lines to say 'let's take turns at leading', as it seems as though whoever follows through the series of fast left-handers on to the back straight will get the slipstream and with it the lead. As that what seems to be happening now. But Bayliss then put his head down to pull out a few tenths on Edwards after putting in a really good lap. Troy Bayliss built his gap over Edwards out to 1.5 seconds over the next couple of laps. Goddard's Benelli failed with 5 laps to go when he was in a solid points scoring position. Haga a full 8 seconds behind in 3rd, Hodgson 4th, Bostrom a very distant 5th. Two Michelin men up front, followed by 3 Dunlop runners. Troy Bayliss then went on to march to another clear win as he crossed the line to get the chequered flag a full 3 seconds in front of Colin Edwards
