Giles and Stauffer were the chief protagonists in today's earlier race, the second for the weekend, but the younger chargers will be eager that the pair don't get it
all their own way in this final encounter. Giles led Brookes and Coxhell through turn one this time around but Coxhell took Brookes for 2nd early on the lap. But Brookes got him back on the run down to MG Hairpin. This little scrap had allowed Gilesy to get a bike length or two on them but they quickly closed the gap back down again on the run to turn one. Stauffer then took third from Brookes under brakes for Honda Corner on lap two but Brookes came back and went past Stauffer, then Coxhell, to move back up to 2nd place and start to challenge Giles for the lead with five laps to run.Brookesy then got Giles for the lead under brakes at MG Hairpin as they approached the half race distance but the bigger engined blew past down the straight with Gilesy taking the lead again. Coxhell then started coming on strong again and was showing a wheel to the Honda rider from time to time. Brookes then put his hand up as he came across the line with 3 laps to run, his machine obviously suffering some sort of mechanical failure. This left Gilesy out in front with only Coxhell to try and chase him down, Stauffer was now a couple of seconds behind the Suzuki pair. The duo leaving major darkies everywhere around the circuit, Giles after coming under the bridge and Coxhell lighting it up big, but controlled, out of Siberia. Lovely stuff.Giles maintained the advantage as they got the last lap board but Coxhell tried hard on the final lap to try and close on his more experience team-mate. But Shawn held on for a great win. But something tells me that there would not have been much rubber left on the rear tyres of Giles and Coxhell after that final couple of laps, smokin!
Gilesy took the overall round win for the weekend after three great victories. Stauffer earned enough points for 2nd overall, Brent George a great 3rd, Josh Brookes 4th overall and Coxhell 5th. Both Brookes and Coxhell suffered one mechanical DNF each this weekend. |
