The Motorcycle Racing Club of WA are staging special racecraft course next weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday instruction will be carried out by the club's own
accredited instructors and if you fear they are not qualified enough, then how about taking lessons from the two men who between them have wrapped up the past four Shell Advance Australian Superbike
Championships. That's right Craig Coxhell and Shawn Giles will be in attendance for the duration of the event to pass on some knowledge and no doubt also thrill participants with an impressive display of riding skill. I have ridden with both of these boys before and it really is quite a buzz, and more than a little humbling, to ride with world class riders of this calibre. To participate you will need leathers, full face helmet, calf high leather boots and gloves that cover the wrist. A small amount of gear is available for hire but you will have to get in quick and make a booking to reserve something in your name. Of course you will also need a motorcycle. Headlights, tail lights, indicators, number plate and speedo should be taped up while centre-stands will need to be wired up. You will also need to tape over or remove your mirrors and remove any luggage racks. Make sure you arrive at the circuit with close to a full tank as you will get plenty of track time. Remember only 40 laps of the Wanneroo circuit amount to nearly 100 kilometres, and at racetrack pace fuel gets burned up mighty quickly. Five litre tins will be available at the track for $5 if your fuel situation gets critical. Included in the courses fees are lunch and refreshments. While a photographer will be on hand to get that shot of you rounding up Shawn Giles through the left hander. Well maybe not, but maybe some creative work in Photoshop might make it look that way.. The gates open at 7am on both the Saturday and Sunday and scrutineering along with machine preparation will commence immediately thereafter. The action will wrap up at around 4:30pm each day.
