Click here for the earlier report Jay Marmont got the holeshot but also starting strongly was Suzuki's Danny Ham, both riders showing similar pace during practice, but this would be the test of who has the race pace here in Adelaide tonight. Cameron Taylor also in the hunt, and after a couple of laps had closed some ground on Ham. Running in fourth place was Brad Hibberd who was being chased by Craig Carmichael. Marmont looking strong, but not able to pull away from Ham too easily. About five bike lengths between Marmont and Ham as they got the last lap board, Taylor a similar distance behind in third. And that is the way they finished.
Next on the schedule was the second Pro Open heat featuring the return of Troy Carroll. The Yamaha star coming back from a heavy fall at the opening round of the SX Nationals when he slipped a couple of discs at the Sydney Superdome. Troy Dorron got away well with Mick Cook but a melee involving four riders brought down Cheyne Boyd at turn one. Dorron continued to lead the way from Cook while Michael Klasen was putting in an impressive showing in third place. Doz was pulling away easily out in front. Troy Carroll was recovering from a poor start to move up into fourth place and started piling the pressure on Klasen. Boyd trying hard to make up positions and the fastest man on the circuit, but that first turn fall was costing him dearly as he was still running only ninth, despite being the fastest man on the circuit during this heat. Troy Dorron got the last lap board with a huge lead over Cook, meanwhile Boyd had worked his way up to seventh place. Troy Carroll got the better of Klasen for third position. Boyd continued to run his hot pace and made it back up to fifth place as the chequered flag was waved.
Next up was the all important Pro Lite semi. Ryan Marmont and Daniel Reardon of course have no need to ride in the semis as their heat wins automatically put them straight in to the final. The first and second place getters in this semi also go straight through to the final, while third, fourth and fifth places get their chance to qualify for the main by competing in a last chance qualifier. Jono Porter went down at turn one while Jye Harvey and Cody Cooper led the way out in front. Next best was Greg Schnell who now seemed to be finding his feet at the Adelaide track. Running in fourth place was Bronte Holland. Schnell closed on to the back of Cooper and Harvey as the laps progressed, Cooper got the better of Harvey for the lead on lap four. Schnell has the pace but this tight track does not make passing easy, for him to make a pass he will have to be aggressive. Harvey went down on the final lap which handed second place to Schnell, Cooper taking the win.
This second Pro Lite semi looked as though it might shape up as a battle between Adam Cini and Paul Broomfield. That was exactly how it unfolded as Broomfield and Cini got great runs off the line, but not too far behind was Toby Price and Bradleigh Thompson. Broomfield then started to pull away from Cini, who in turn was starting to come under attack from Toby Price. Cini was relegated to third by Price on lap three but Cini came back at him early on lap four to regain his second place. Then to add insult to injury Bradleigh Thompson also went through on Price to relegate the young Sydneysider to fourth place. Broomfield took the win after running a hot pace with a best lap of 30.7. Blake Jacobs went over the bars on the final lap after running fairly well during this semi.
Cody Mackie surprised a few people with his strong pace in his Pro Lite heat after getting the better of Daniel McCoy. McCoy would not have liked that at all and would be out to make amends in this semi. Sinclair of course the winner of that heat with instant qualification to the main. Daniel Reynolds got the holeshot though while Mick Macdermid, Cody Mackie and Daniel McCoy went right with him, this quartet nearly running four abreast during the first lap. MacDermid then got the break from McCoy with Mackie still hanging on to their tail also, Reynolds then started to drop off a little. The leading trio, Macdermid, McCoy and Mackie all running fairly much nose to tail. McCoy aggressive and looking to make a pass, he managed to do it early on lap four after making a forceful move on Macdermid. Mackie then started to challenge Macdermid as they got the last lap board, Reynolds then went over the bars out of fourth position. McCoy out in front, Macdermid second and Mackie third, and that was how it ended as they got chequered. Jack Daniele scored fourth and Western Australia's Alan Brinkworth took a brave fifth after puncturing his lung in Brisbane a few weeks ago.
The juniors moved in to their gate positions next for the start of their second race. Thompson got the jump and immediately pulled around 20 metres on his pursuers, Matt Moss the first of the chasers. Moss actually faster than Thompson in places with the gap springing between about 5 and 20 metres depending on what part of the circuit the two young chargers were negotiating at the time. Thompson then over jumped and lost a heap of ground which allowed Moss through to take the lead and a healthy 50 metre advantage. Dalle-Molle and Jake Moss then started to close on Thompson, the Mount Gambier youngster obviously feeling some pain from that practice crash earlier today. No such dramas for Matt Moss though as the young Nowra lad took a strong win in front of the Adelaide crowd. Thompson ran in to some more trouble on the final lap and was pushed down to ninth place on the final lap. So a Moss brothers 1-2.
Danny Ham and Cameron Taylor ran in to some problems early on lap one in this first Pro Open semi, no such drama for Craig Carmichael though who streaked away out in front to an early lead. Brad Hibberd, Lee Ellis, Barry Surawski and Nathan Brochtrup all running up front. Taylor recovering from his first lap troubles to be in sixth place by the end of lap two while Ham was running last. Carmichael then went down and handed the lead over to Brad Hibberd, Carmichael remounted in second position. Ham finally started to make some progress in order to get a chance to go through to the last chance qualifier. Hibberd takes the win from Carmichael, Ellis third. Taylor ending up with sixth place, Ham seventh, setting up a thrilling last chance qualifier with only two riders from that LCQ to qualify for the final...
After watching the troubles of Ham and Taylor the guys at the gates for the second Pro Open semi would be careful not to get caught up in any similar dramas during their semi. No first lap dramas this time for Boyd who quickly moved through to the front from Mick Cook. Michael Klasen was in third for the first lap before succumbing to a charging Robbie Marshall. Boyd pulling away easily out in front from Cook, but then Marshall continued his surge forward by relegating Cook to third place. Boyd with a huge advantage out in front. Troy Carroll then found his speed and pushed Mick Cook down to fourth place. Boyd running a hot pace, 30.4, the fastest yet seen tonight. Last lap board and still Boyd out in front with a healthy advantage over Marshall. Boyd takes the dominant win.
