Pro Open Heat 1 Championship winner Jay Marmont led them out of
the tunnel as they formed up at the gates for this first Pro Open
heat. Jay got the holeshot but Kane Scanlan also got a flyer and
secured a good line through turn one only to get shuffled back
through the order around the back of the circuit. Jay immediately
started pulling away while Troy Carroll made second place clearly
his while Troy Dorron likewise had a clear third. Troy Dorron then
started to close on Carroll a little and was within striking
distance as they got the last lap board. Similarly Carroll had
closed the gap to Marmont down to a realistic possibility. Carroll
then pulled out all stops on the final lap as Jay looked to be
having a little trouble; Carroll takes second but only by half a
bike length behind Marmont.
Result 1.Marmont 2.Carroll 3.Dorron 4.Hibberd 5.Brochtrup
Pro Open Heat 2 Three contenders for the Pro Open #2 plate took
to the gates for this second Pro Open heat, Taylor, Boyd and Ham,
all want that #2 plate tonight. Ham gets a good leave but Taylor
squeezes past and Boydy shot out of turn one to the lead, Taylor in
behind, Ellis third while Ham had been squashed down to fifth. Ham
was up to fourth after a couple of laps but it looked as though
fourth was going to be about as good as he could hope for as the
leading trio had a bit of a gap on him. That was until Taylor went
down on the back section of the circuit promoting Ham up to third,
and Ellis up to second while Taylor had remounted in fourth. Ham the
closed on Ellis and challenged for position in the air after the
final triples but Hams front wheel caught the back of Ellis just
after they landed which took Ham down while Ellis continued on, the
mistake pushing Ham back to sixth. Boydy takes a clear win over
Ellis, Taylor third, McKenna fourth and Surawski fifth.
Result 1.Boyd 2.Ellis 3.Taylor 4.McKenna 5.Surawski
Pro Lite Semi 1 No need for Greg Schnell to take to the gates
for this one as his place in the final is already secured thank to
his win in the first heat. Marmont and Johnson collided at the end
of the back whoops section and Johnson was down and out while
Marmont managed to keep going. Daniel Reynolds had been leading so
he loses that advantage as they came around for the re-start. But
the big news was that Ryan was hurting, Johnson had possibly landed
on his shoulder and also bent his bike up a bit as his mechanic
tried to straighten some of the controls Ryan nursed his injuries,
the young Wollongong lad really hurting. He gets back on the bike to
give it another go but this could be the end of his championship
chances if he has sustained any significant injury from that
incident. But to put things in to perspective what everyone was
really concerned with was the fate of Johnson who was still out for
the count and being attended to on the track by paramedics. The
announcers tried to get the crowd going with the give us a cheer
line, a little bit distasteful while Johnson was obviously in
trouble and still lying on the track and being strapped to a board
in readiness to be carried from the track. Lets hope the paramedics
were just taking all precautions and that Jay Johnson is in fact
going to be back in action soon. Ryan Marmont was still obviously
struggling with some pain as they kicked their machines back in to
action for the re-start of this first Pro Lite semi final, as if the
teenager did not have enough pressure on his now damaged shoulders
before the start of tonight, hopefully he will bounce back and be
able to at least take the fight down to the main event, as I am sure
that if Reardon is to take the championship tonight he will want to
do it on the track. A lengthy delay followed Johnsons departure
from the track as officials did a little of work on the section of
the track constructed where the pit area has been in previous years.
Finally the re-start got underway and this time it was Ryan Marmont
who got away well with Jye Harvey on his tail and Landman also
trying to threaten. Marmont looking okay, he has put his race face
on and left the pain behind him as this trio escaped from the rest
of the field. Harvey then closed on Marmont through the rhythm
section, Marmont will want to try and take this win but Harvey has
other plans as the duo left Landman in their wake. As they received
the last lap board Marmont was still holding on to the lead and
actually was faster than Harvey on that penultimate lap and held on
for a strong win. The Wollongong boy still in pain though as he
clutches his shoulder on the warm down lap.
Result 1.Marmont 2.Harvey 3.Landman 4.Hobson 5.Reynolds
Pro Lite Semi 2 The riders take to the gates and reach down to
lock down their forks for a good leave for this second Pro Lite
semi. Reardon expected to be the leader here but Jono Porter and
Mitch Hoad will be out give the championship leader a hurry up.
Porter took the early lead but Reardon went past at the end of the
whoop section but Reardon then fell and lost around seven places.
Corless and Robinson got tangled early in the race and lost a lot of
time also. Porter the leader from Cini as Reardon had to regain a
number of places even to make it in to the Last Chance Qualifier,
this could be his championship lost here in this semi! Cini piling
the pressure on Porter but Porter holds on for the win. Reardon home
outside the top six and therefore his night is over! The 2004 Pro
Lite SX Nationals Title goes to Ryan Marmont if he can score only
two points on the final later tonight.
Result 1.Porter 2.Cini 3.Rochford 4.Hoad 5.Flint
6.Brinkworth
Pro Lite Semi 3 Ex Western Australian Paul Broomfield took the
holeshot in this third Pro Lite semi and the Kawasaki then sprinted
away from Cameron Sinclair and Bob Kiniry. The young American got
the better of Sinclair for second place.
Result 1.Broomfield 2.Kiniry 3.Sinclair 4.Thompson
5.Girotto
Juniors Race 2 Wade Thompson scores the holeshot as Carafa and
the Moss brother fight over second. Matt Moss takes that second
place but Thompson was streaking away out in front. Ford Dale then
started to come through and commenced a duel with Carafa over third
position, Gianni Dalle-Molle also a threat. Thompson takes an easy
win, Matt Moss second and Just Carafa just manages to hold on to
third.
Result 1.Thompson 2.Moss M 3.Carafa 4.Dale 5.Dalle-Molle |
