With the wrapping up of the new
Supercross Nationals Series competitors are turning their minds
to the opening round of the Maxxis Australian Motocross
Championships which takes place in Geelong on May 16. But the week prior to the motocross season getting underway Australia's best riders will travel to Perth for a huge one off supercross event at the Kwinana Motorplex. Full Throttle Sports are set to build a huge American style supercross track at the Kwinana Motorplex modeled slightly off the AMA Anaheim III layout. The track is set to be the most technical and demanding yet seen in this country. Over 6,000 tonnes of dirt will be trucked in to the Motorplex and track builder Dave Wilson is frothing at the bit to prove that he can build the best track in the country. “Last year our track from round 2 of the Australian Supercross Championship won best track of the year award and it even ended up on an international video game. This time round we have more dirt, more time to build it and furthermore Yarrive never puts any restraints on us, actually on the contrary he tells us to go big, technical and be creative!” From the map below you can see that riders can choose to make turn one a left or right hander before they funnel back together for the entry to turn three. This event has been nearly a year in the planning and has been the brainchild of Full Throttle Sports director Yarrive Konsky and KTM Australia General Manager Jeff Leisk. Yamaha and Suzuki are the only factory backed Australian teams yet to commit to the event, but No Fear Honda, Motorex KTM, top Kawasaki runners and riders representing Yamaha New Zealand will all be in attendance. Western Australia has plenty of fast motocross riders but very rarely do they get the opportunity to ride anything resembling a supercross layout. In order to enable the WA entrants to get some supercross practice in, a full testing day is being scheduled prior to the event. Some of the leading manufactures will be displaying their 04 range of motorcycles and KTM will be giving one lucky spectator a chance to win a KTM SX 50 Snr Pro. There will also be a huge accessories sale on site. Tickets are available from Quit
Motorplex on 08 9419 6622. |
