- 1751 - Coxhell the winner, Giles second, Holland third
and Staring pips Jamie Stauffer to take fourth position.
Johnson sixth then Dan, Allerton, Maxwell, Charlton
- 1750 - Coxhell through cleanly, holds a good advantage
through Siberia... Passing lappers like they are standing
still... Coxhell will do it...
- 1749 - Staring challenging Jamie for fourth place now...
Still a Suzuki 1-2 up front... Staring up to fourth...
Last lap board now.. Can Coxhell hold on or will Gilesy get
the better of him...? More lapped traffic! It's
a suburban road out there at the minute!
- 1747 - Coxhell edging away now with three laps to run...
Holland now has Gilesy and Stauffer on his tail...
Gilesy pulls alongside Holland as they straighten out of
12.. And Gilesy takes second place into turn one...
Coxhell leads by just over half a second but still only a
second covering the top four... Lappers coming into play
now... Coxhell dealt with them best earlier today, will his
luck hold out this time around also...?
- 1746 - Gilesy blasts past Jamie down the straight to
take third position into turn one... Staring lost a lot of
ground through some sort of mistake on that lap and is now
more than a second behind fourth placed Jamie Stauffer...
Coxhell breaking away now...
- 1745 - Staring coming with them also, the top five
closing up considerably now. Only just over a second covers
the whole top five...
- 1744 - Coxhell through to the lead at MG, Holland on his
tail through 11, Suzuki gets great squirt out of 11 before
tipping down again for 12... Coxhell leads across the stripe
and continues to hold sway through turns 1/2/3 but this pair
now being caught by Jamie and Shawn... Four laps to
run...
- 1742 - Coxhell closes back up on Holland, right up his
clacker through Siberia but Holland hooks up well for great
drive through the Hayshed. Coxhell gains again across
Lukey but can't challenge at MG. He is close this time
through turn 11 though, chasing the tail of the Honda
through 12.... Down the chute they go and Coxhell takes the
inside line in one but Holland still has his nose in front
and sweeps across to take the line and hold the lead...
Coxhell holds it tight out of two while Holland runs right
out to the ripple strip... Coxhell looking tidy in this
one... Follows Holland through Siberia and this pair seem to
be edging away from Jamie now...
- 1741 - Dan Stauffer not far behind the top five and now
closing on Staring.. I suspect Dan might have been the
fastest man on lap two... We will see.... Across the stripe
they go and no it is Holland the quickest man wit ha 33.42
to eke out half a second on Coxhell who in turn has half a
second on Jamie
- 1740 - Lap two and Holland holds sway over Coxhell,
Jamie still third while Gilesy has got the better of Staring
for fourth.
- 1738 - Superbikes away! Coxhell leads them into turn one
buoyed by form in the previous race. Holland on his tail
ahead of Jamie, Bryan and Shawn. Holland through to
the lead at four and leads Coxhell through Siberia. Jamie
still in third place ahead of Staring and Giles.
Holland still leads through MG, Coxhell follows him through
turns 11 and 12, gains a little on the run into 12... Down
the chute they go but Holland gets good drive and Coxhell
not in a position to challenge
- 1734 - Last of this weekend's three Aussie Superbike
races up next...
- 1730 - Provisional Results for Supersport Race Three

- 1723 - Race declared after six of eight laps so I
believe Staring will get the win by 0.024 of a second over
Jamie Stauffer. Holland third followed by Charlton,
O'Halloran, Waters, Johnson, Crowe, Maxwell, Seaton, Hay,
Trounson, Keevers, Curran, Quinn, Casella. Believe Jamie
will win the Supersport overall with 70 points to Staring's
62, O'Halloran's 53 and Holland's 52 but things very
provisional at this stage
- 1722 - Okay the red flag came out due to a rider
suffering a huge tumble into turn one after touching another
rider. Medical staff quickly on the scene and I don't
believe the rider is any danger but will be various shades
of the rainbow that's for sure
- 1719 - Bryan still holds sway at the front but Jamie all
over the back of him and has the inside line into turn one
this time around and takes the lead with two laps to run.
Bryan tries to get him back at two but can't manage it,
Holland closing in on him now too... The leading trio
tightening up now at the business end of the race, Bryan
underneath Jamie at MG in a fantastic move which spoiled
Jamie's drive out and thus gives Bryan the advantage through
turn 11... Jamie slipstreams down the chute though and
squeezes past... Hold on red flag is out, that means we will
go back a lap... Not sure why the red flag is out.... Big
accident somewhere...
- 1718 - Waters, Johnson and O'Halloran having a heady
tussle over fifth position some six seconds behinds the
leaders and three seconds behind fourth placed Charlton
- 1717 - Jamie just lowered the lap record again with a
36.03 a couple of laps earlier but Holland the quickest man
on that last lap with a 36.2 to gain half a second on the
leading duo... Four laps to run
- 1716 - Bryan all over the back of Jamie through turns 11
and 12, up his clacker down the chute, alongside into turn
one but takes the inside line and the lead, holds onto it
through turn two and three. Jamie right behind though...
- 1715 - Jamie into the lead between turns one and two,
holds it through three and into four... Still Jamie through
Siberia but he isn't getting away.
- 1714 - Charlton back ahead of Holland in third place
now, that battle unfolding 1.4 seconds behind the leading
duo. Bryan Staring just set a new Aussie Supersport
race lap record with a 36.28 to Staring's 36.46 but Staring
still holds sway at the front.
- 1713 - Staring back into the lead at turn four, holds on
to it through Siberia. Scott Charlton is tussling with
Russell Holland over third position. Holland up the inside
of Charlton at MG for third place. Staring leads onto the
main straight, Jamie in his slipstream but fails to take the
lead this time around
- 1712 - Jamie takes the lead from Staring down the
straight to start lap two
- 1711 - Staring leads through Siberia ahead of Jamie
Stauffer and Scott Charlton has jumped on a 600 to be in
third!
- 1710 - Supersport men are away! Staring leads in
to turn one from a gaggle of Yamahas and teammate Holland
- 1659 - Supersport Race 3 up next
- 1654 - Superbike Race Provisional Results

- 1650 - Coxhell slides around 11 and 12 for the last time
to take a brilliant win and showing form that he hopes will
carry him into the 2008 Aussie Superbike season. Holland a
fighting second place with a remarkable 33.83 to his credit
for the fastest lap of the race, Staring third, Giles
fourth, Jamie fifth then it was Charlton, Johnson, Allerton,
Dan Stauffer, Maxwell, Etheridge, Gibson, Whiteley, Tozer,
McKay, Williams, Taylor, Odgers, Domashcenz, Epis, Clarke
- 1649 - Coxhell gets the last lap board with a full
second on Holland this time around who in turn has 7-tenths
on Staring who is closely followed by Jamie Stauffer and
Shawn Giles. Shannon Johnson has lost a lot of ground and is
back in sixth place ahead of Charlton and Allerton. Dan
Stauffer ninth ahead of Maxwell, Etheridge, Gibson, Tozer
- 1648 - The top five closing up again now and lapped
traffic starting to become an issue, Coxhell forced to go
around the outside of a lapper at Siberia... Jamie messed up
by a lapper through the Hayshed... A pity that lappers could
spoil the fight...
- 1647 - Holland on Coxhell across Lukey, on his tail into
turn 11, how much mumbo can the Honda muster down the
straight.... Not enough but it's not shy of ponies either as
Holland crossed the line to start the penultimate lap less
than 2-tenths behind Coxhell...
- 1646 - Coxhell and Holland both with 34.3s that time
around while the others slowed a little. Coxhell led by
7-tenths across the line but the other guys make up a little
ground on the tighter sections of the circuit... Far from
over yet, three laps to run
- 1645 - The Honda men won't leave Jamie alone and this
could help Coxhell.. Jamie wide at Siberia that time,
both Hondas take advantage of the mistake to push him back
to fourth. Holland closing on Coxhell now... But they are
coming through 11 and 12 and that Suzuki will make ground
through that fast section and onto the straight...
- 1645 - Coxhell makes ground through 11 and 12, that
Suzuki motor is phenomenal but Coxhell has the balls to use
it... Jamie up to second now, Staring and Holland right on
his tail, Gilesy losing touch with them a little now...
- 1644 - Jamie a little wide at turn four and Holland
nearly pounced, the Honda man also put in a 34.1 on that
previous lap... Coxhell, Staring, Jamie, Holland, Giles the
top five and all covered by only a second with five lap to
run
- 1643 - A 34.10 to Jamie and he is closing on Staring and
Coxhell now. Holland and Giles are coming with him also so
this is far from over
- 1642 - Coxhell giving his Dunlops a hard time out of
Siberia and the Hayshed, Staring also moving around.
Jamie is looming large, has dispensed with Giles and Johnson
and is now up to third, this will be a cracker lap time from
the Yamaha man
- 1640 - Johnson gets a great run through the back of the
circuit and moves back up to third, up front though it is
Coxhell and Staring.. The Suzuki motors away a little down
the straight but Staring still right with him and this pair
are breaking away. A 34.2 to Coxhell on lap tow and a 34.6
to Staring. Jamie Stauffer in fifth but coming on normal...
- 1639 - Down the straight they comes and Staring leads,
Coxhell takes Giles and Johnson to move up to second place
and on Staring's tail through turn three. Staring
untidy out of three, Coxhell takes him on the run to four
and leads Staring through Siberia...
- 1638 - Still Johnson from Staring as they climb around
Lukey Heights, Staring up the inside at MG and leads through
turn 12
- 1637 - Superbikes away, a Honda leading in to turn one
but then a Kawasaki slots through in turn two and leads them
through turn three. Johnson the man in the lead I believe
from Staring, Gilesy moves up to third at turn four, Coxhell
fourth
- 1636 - On their warm up lap now...
- 1633 - Aussie Superbikes will be underway shortly, they
are assembling now prior to their warm up lap...
- 1625 - Doohan, Magee and Beattie doing some demo laps
for the crowd then it will be the Aussie Superbike boys turn
to have some fun
- 1602 -

- 1451 - Stoner did not bother going out again and will
start from third place on the grid behind second placed
Rossi and pole sitter Pedrosa. Rossi failed to improve
on his last lap. Heading the second row is Hayden on
29.93 ahead of Capirossi and De Puniet. Thus we have
two Michelin men on the front row with the Honda of Pedrosa
and Yamaha of Rossi and the first Bridgestone man Stoner
rounding out the front row
- 1450 - Hopkins on a good lap and promotes himself from
16th place to....14th place with a 31.38. The Suzuki
men not having a good day, both riders putting in more than
25 laps but managing only 14th and 16th on the grid, a
disappointing day for Suzuki fans
- 1449 - Rossi exits pitlane with 40 seconds left on the
timers, he will get a chance to warm things up through the
back section and receive the chequered flag to signal his
last flying lap of the day...
- 1448 - Hayden moves from seventh place and 30.40 to a
29.93 and fourth aplce... Stoner still yet to go out, it is
perhaps looking as though he might not bother and hope
nobody knocks him out of third position and thus shifts him
back to the second row...
- 1447 - Capirossi moves from sixth to fourth with a
30.09. Still only Pedrosa, Rossi and Stoner to dip
into the 29s... Stoner getting his tyre warmers removed now
for another crack at the top... two minutes remaining...
- 1446 - Most of the field on out laps now, Hayden,
Tamada, Checa, West, Hopkins, Melandri, De Puniet, Nakano,
Davies...
- 1445 - Rossi on a quick one, under Pedrosa at first
split... 0.01 behind at third split.... A wiggle onto the
straight and crosses the line with a 29.41 to move up to
second
- 1444 - Pedrosa the danger man now... The Spaniard
quickest at the first split, quicker again at second
split... The Spaniard to the top of the charts with a 29.20!
Five minutes remaining... Are we going to see the first ever
28 second lap of the Island here this afternoon!
- 1443 - Stoner on a quick one... This will be a new
fastest time... A 29.81 to the Aussie to sit atop the charts
once again. Rossi on an out lap with a new rear slick
though...
- 1442 - Rossi just came in for a new rear bag and about
to head out again. Checa moves from 15th to 12th with a
31.20
- 1441 - Hayden on a good lap and will improve but won't
threaten the top men yet... Hayden up to sixth with a 30.40
- 1440 - Rossi on a good lap now...Under at second and
third splits.... Rossi goes from fifth to the top with a
29.991, besting Stoner by 7 thousandths of a second while
the Australian sits in the pits. Stoner has 19 laps
under his belt in this session, Rossi 23, De Puniet 22,
Pedrosa 23, Capirossi 23, West 22, Edwards 17
- 1439 - Both Repsol HRC men out now.. Hayden on an out
lap, Pedrosa on his second lap out
- 1438 - Davies just headed up the escape road at turn
four after running in a little too deep
- 1437 - Guintoli on a good lap, out of the blue... On a
good pace at the splits... Might have slotted in a
qualifier... Moves up to seventh place with a 31.06
- 1436 - 13 minutes to run and only four riders currently
circulating
- 1435 - Pedrosa on an out lap. The Spaniard currently
ninth quickest. Stoner just returned to pitlane and is
talking to his technicians. His gesturing appeared to
indicate he may have been having a little chatter
- 1434 - Edwards on a good lap... Up to sixth now with a
30.67
- 1433 - 17 minutes remaining. Rossi just came into the
pits, also in the pits is De Puniet, Hopkins, Elias,
Pedrosa, Guintoli, Capirossi, Roberts. On out laps are
Tamada, Checa and Vermeulen
- 1432 - A good lap from Westy although it did look a
little wide out of MG but he betters his time with a 30.64
to rank fifth
- 1431 - Stoner out and going quick again... Westy on a
flyer... If he holds it together through the latter half of
this lap he will improve his standing....
- 1430 - Barros having a crack now... The Brazilian up to
tenth with a 31.15
- 1429 - De Puniet was a couple of tenths under Stoner's
best time at the third split but lost a little time in the
final sector to cross the line with a 30.2 thus doesn't
improve his standing...
- 1428 - Rossi out on track and having a go. A 31.5 that
time around but he might be setting up for a crack at a good
one. De Puniet out and on the pace again... He is under
Stoner at the second split....
- 1425 - Edwards on a good lap... The Texan up to sixth
with a 31.05. The Suzuki men making no progress,
Hopkins's best has him 12th and that was on the fourth of
his 14 laps thus far. Vermeulen's best sees him 16th on the
15th of his 18 laps...
- 1424 - West up to fifth with a 30.72 to push Melandri
back to sixth. The current order is Stoner, De Puniet,
Capirossi, Rossi, West, Melandri, Pedrosa, Barros, Guintoli,
Hayden, Hopkins, Checa, Edwards, Elias, Tamada, Vermeulen,
Nakano, Davies, Roberts
- 1423 - Stoner in the pits, as is Tamada, De Puniet,
Hopkins, Elias, Melandri, Davies and Vermeulen. Westy
on a good lap...
- 1421 - Westy seems to be struggling this afternoon,
slipping to tenth place. Suzuki men Hopkins and Vermeulen a
long way off the pace
- 1420 - De Puniet splits the Ducatis with a 30.11 on his
15th lap.
- 1418 - Pedrosa on a flyer now, looking to improve on his
current seventh place but this won't be quick enough to
threaten the top two Ducati men. The Spaniard improves to
sixth, just a thousandth off fifth placed De Puniet who
himself is now on a cracker of a lap and will improve....Or
crash trying...
- 1416 - Melandri on a quick one and might improve his
order but will not threaten the top men with this lap... A
31.07 to the Italian to sit behind Rossi in fourth place
with just over half an hour to run in this one and only
qualifying session
- 1413 - Vermeulen out and circulating but currently three
seconds off the top man
- 1411 - Rossi on a flyer... Line ball with Stoner's top
time at the second split... A 30.55 to Rossi to move up to
third in the rankings behind Capirossi and quickest man
Stoner. Stoner on an
- 1410 - Vermeulen on an out lap. Riders currently
in the pits include Barros, Edwards, Tamada, Hopkins, Elias,
Pedrosa, Stoner, Melandri and Davies
- 1408 - Nakano on the Konica Minolta Honda just narrowly
avoided being sent into orbit when his machine went luridly
sideways before Siberia
- 1407 - Stoner just dipped into the 29s, a 29.99 to go to
the top of the charts
- 1406 - Melandri out now and looking to move up the order
from his current eighth ranking... Stoner on a flyer.....
- 1405 - Pedrosa making some progress now, the diminutive
brooding Spaniard up to fourth with a 31.22 to push Stoner
down to fifth
- 1403 - Elias, Hayden, Barros, De Puniet, Stoner and
Guintoli all on out laps after coming in for some changes
- 1402 - Capirossi to the top of the charts with a
30.32...
- 1400 - Pedrosa's Honda still really waggling its tail
around 11. The Spaniard currently tenth and riding damn hard
just to be in that position. This sessions is the only one
thus far where his Repsol teammate has been quicker than
him, Hayden liking things this afternoon much more and
currently fifth quickest with a 31.49. The American of
course the qualifying lap record holder here
- 1359 - Barros up to second with a 31.18. Rossi on
a quicker one but it won't be good enough to top the
charts.. Rossi up to sixth with a 31.65
- 1358 - The top nine all in the 31s now. De Puniet,
Stoner, Capirossi, Barros, Melandri, Rossi, West, Hopkins,
Hayden the order of that top nine
- 1357 - A 31.11 to De Puniet now, West fourth on 31.8.
The Kawasaki machines performing well here all weekend. A
31.4 to Stoner to move up to second quickest
- 1356 - Stoner on a quick one now...
- 1355 - Capirossi and West into the 31s. A 31.4 to
Capirossi and 31.8 to West
- 1354 - De Puniet straight down to 32s along with Stoner,
West, Capirossi and Barros th early top five
- 1350 - Pitlane open now and the 800s are cackling their
way onto the Phillip Island circuit
- 1344 - MotoGP Qualifying set to get underway at 1350 -
Sound of bikes being warmed up reverberating around the
paddock right now

- 1214 - The clouds are starting to turn darker again so I
will not be at all surprised if we do not have some more
showers this afternoon but hopefully not so we can see some
cracking times put down by the MotoGP boys
- 1213 - This 250cc session winding down now and still
Lorenzo on top by a country mile
- 1204 - 33.31 to Lorenzo now, 10 minutes still left in
this session and he is 1.2 seconds clear of the next best,
Barbera on 34.52. Is the MotoGP world going to be ready for
Lorenzo when he joins Rossi at Yamaha next year? Will
the young upstart do the unthinkable and show up Rossi...?
- 1158 - Of course for most Australians this weekend it is
the first chances to actually hear themselves the sound of
the new 800s screaming down the straight but I must say I
think most will be disappointed. It is ear achingly loud
that's for sure but not the savage high revving note I had
hoped for.
- 1155 - The track and conditions certainly improving now.
Lorenzo down to 33.55 on his 14th lap of 16 thus far. Just
under 20 minutes to run in this session
- 1150 - After the completion of the 250cc practice
session the Ducati two seater will take some VIP rides while
those spectators that have bought a pit walk pass will enjoy
a closer look at the GP paddock. At 1305 the bikes will hit
the track again for the 125cc final qualifier followed by
MotoGP qualifying from 1350-1450
- 1144 - Lorenzo down to a 34.2 now with half an hour
still left in this 250cc practice session
- 1142 - And for the 70kg 125cc tiddlers that have a
piston the size of the one in a good whipper snipper... Try
243.24 km/h on for size... That incredible number 243.24
km/h recorded by Lucio Cecchinello in 2002
- 1141 - And how fast can a two-stroke with pistons the
size of your lawnmower get down the straight here at Phillip
Island? Thus far today the 250cc machines are broaching
270km/h however the record speed for a 250cc machine is
279.86km/h set by Melandri in 2002 onboard an Aprilia
- 1139 - This afternoon the MotoGP qualifying record to
beat is the astonishing 29.02 set by Hayden last year, only
a whisker off the first ever 28 seconds lap of the Island.
The race lap record however belongs to Melandri with a 30.33
recorded in 2005. The best top speed seen at the Island from
a MotoGP bike came in 2005 aboard a Ducati when the Spaniard
clocked 333.43 km/h. Those times of course all set on
the previous 990cc bikes while this year we have a 20%
smaller capacity to work with as 2007 rules dictate engines
of only 800cc in size are allowed
- 1136 - In this 250cc practice session Lorenzo has now
lowered the bar to 34.40. The 250cc race fastest lap record
is a 33.38 set by Porto in 2004. The qualifying record is a
32.09 set by Porto the same year which is also the fastest
250cc lap ever recorded at the Island
- 1134 - Top Speeds from Free Practice 3
- Stoner 320.6 - Ducati
- Pedrosa 318.8 - Honda
- Barros 316.8 - Ducati
- De Puniet 315.8 - Kawasaki
- West 315.1 - Kawasaki
- Davies 315.0 - Ducati
- Capirossi 314.7 - Ducati
- Vermeulen 313.3 - Suzuki
- Melandri 312.7 - Honda
- Rossi 312.2 - Yamaha
- Hayden 311.0 - Honda
- Hopkins 310.1 - Suzuki
- Edwards 309.3 - Yamaha
- Tamada 308.6 - Yamaha
- Elias 308.3 - Honda
- Nakano 306.4 - Honda
- Checa 306.4 - Honda
- Guintoli 305.6 - Yamaha
- Roberts 303.1 - KR
- 1131 - The Friday crowd figure of 27,258 easily eclipses
the previous Friday best set in 1998, the year Doohan won
the last of his five consecutive titles
- 1128 - Track is starting to clean up a little now.
Barbera just did a 34.5 on his 250 on his sixth lap of this
250cc Free Practice session
- 1122 - In town traffic is crazy, getting into the track
is crazy and if you are heading down I thoroughly recommend
using two wheels as your transport. Sun is peeking through
clouds right now and those clouds aren't quite as dark and
gloomy as they were before so it is 'possible' we could have
a dry qualifying session this afternoon. But then this is
Phillip Island so I guess it could also decide to snow
between here and the next hour....
- 1120 - Organisers are claiming a record crowd for
yesterday and I am inclined to agree with them. Official
figures put the count at 27,258 which for a Friday crowd at
a place that is in the middle of nowhere and suffering under
diabolical weather conditions is really quite a feat.
- 1115 - If you haven't tested your Australian GP
knowledge with our quiz, how about giving it a crack now,
for the quiz
- 1109 - Stoner had an off in that session which was a
little nasty. He got thrown over the highside at relatively
low speed but he would have still felt the impact. The track
looks dry but obviously still in a dodgy state as most
riders are struggling to get power down. Pedrosa had so many
near launches it wasn't funny
- 1105 - Here are all the team reports from yesterday -

shortly. Stoner went to the top of the charts on what was a
dry but still a little slippery track. De Puniet has been
normal all morning and Pedrosa is riding the wheels of the
Honda, looks to be struggling with rear grip or rear
suspension but he looks to be trying the hardest for his
times.
