Report - Final Qualifying - Kawasaki

NIETO CONTINUES TO GO WELL, LACONI CLOSES THE GAP

Positive results for Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team at the end of the second Superpole of the season disputed at the Phillip Island's track in Australia. Fonsi Nieto starts from the second row of the grid with his 6th best time, whereas Regis Laconi was unable to reach the same row by a thousandth of a second so he will start from the 3rd row. The Spanishman Nieto suffered from the strong winds that have hampered most trackside but despite that he succeeded in being fast during Superpole. The second row is a good position to be after he showed what he can do after Qatar's 2nd race. The Frenchman Laconi improved a lot and was just unlucky that he couldn’t manage to start from the 2nd row alongside his team-mate.

FONSI NIETO: "I did quite well in the Superpole and the 2nd row is a positive result even if I still can't express completely myself when I face this quick lap. In general today it hasn't been easy because of the changeable weather which made the bike difficult to ride. For that reason we had to find different solutions and not always we found the correct settings. I didn't make the long run because there was no time to do it, I'll choose the tyre for the round tomorrow according to the weather conditions. It's of prime importance to start well but not always I'm good on that".

REGIS LACONI: "We did extreme setup changes compared to Friday's qualifying. We returned to the set up we had during the pre-championship's tests and immediately the bike changed, now it's much easier to ride it. I improved my time of 1''. Besides the Superpole, which made me feel a bit of regret for losing the second row for a thousandth of second, what gave me confidence is the long run I did. 16 laps with an used tyre it's not bad, at the end it was a bit slippery but nothing to be worried about. I have decided, if the weather conditions aren’t so changeable I'll opt for the softer tyre".
