Australian Superbike 2008 - Round One - Eastern Creek - Day One Morning Report
By, Trevor Hedge

With current Australian Supersport Champion Jason O'Halloran moving to the Superbike class for 2008 the battle for the number one plate in the hotly contested Supersport class is a little more wide open.

Jamie Stauffer was beaten to the 2007 Title at the last round by O'Halloran but that hasn't stopped Stauffer from coming back for a dose of double duty across the Supersport and Superbike classes again in 2008. Stauffer headed the morning timesheets with a 1m34.392. Incidentally, that time would have also been good enough for a top ten spot in the Superbike Morning Practice Results.

Jeremy Crowe continues with Yamaha in 2008 and was only 0.14 of a second slower than Stauffer. Judd Greedy was also right on the pace aboard his Sunstate Racing backed CBR600RR. Next best on the charts was Teknic Honda signing Wayne Maxwell with Joshua Waters debuting the new GSX-R600 Suzuki fifth quickest with a 1m35.42 to his credit.

Scott Charlton leads Kawasaki's Supersport charge with a 1m35.43 on the ZX-6R.

Perth youngster Bryan Staring has switched camps from Honda to Yamaha for 2008 and managed seventh quickest on the YZF-R6 in his ASC debut with the Yamaha Racing Team. Grant Hay was next best overall with a 1m35.95 good enough for eighth quickest outright ahead of Team Kawasaki entrant Shaun Geronimi (1m36.11). Chris Quinn rounded out the top ten onboard a Channon General Store sponsored YZF-R6.

Reece Bancell Scholarship award winner Cameron Keevers ended the first session 13th quickest (1m36.37)

Ben Attard has returned from a couple of seasons racing the American Championships and managed a 1m36.88 onboard a privately entered Yamaha YZF-R6 supported by Vern Graham Yamaha.
