Australian Superbike 2008 - Round Two - Mallala (SA) - Carbonize
Report McMartin Maintains Perfect Record at Mallala Craig McMartin and the Ricoh Business Centre/Carbonize Race Team completed a perfect weekend at South Australia’s Mallala Raceway last weekend with a pole position and 3 wins from 3 starts. Riding the Ricoh Business Centre/Carbonize Racing Ducati 1098S, McMartin dominated the practice and qualifying sessions eventually qualifying in pole position with a time of 1:09.591, 1.5 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, Craig Trinder (MV Agusta Racing). Craig Trinder later suffered an unfortunate injury during an incident in the final qualifying session and was unable to compete in the remainder of the event. Race one on Saturday afternoon saw McMartin get away to a good start, having a short battle with Daniel Wheeler (Ducati 1098S) before building a gap and finishing the race more than 6 seconds clear of Daniel Wheeler while Adrian Pierpoint (Benelli TNT) finished in 3rd position. Race’s two and three on Sunday were a similar affair with McMartin taking the lead early and going onto dominate each race, winning by more than 2.5 seconds from Daniel Wheeler and Mick Johnston (Ducati 1098S) in the first event on Sunday morning and almost 10 seconds from Daniel Wheeler and Mick Johnston in the second event on Sunday afternoon. Craig was very happy with the results from the weekend, saying "the Ricoh Business Centre/Carbonize Racing 1098S was great all weekend, Nick from Teknik Motorsport and my team worked hard all weekend to give me a great package which made my job so much easier. I would also like to thank Dunlop Tyres for supplying me with the best tyres available". Craig now holds a 30 point advantage over Daniel Wheeler in the Pro – Twin Championship. Craig’s next outing on the Ricoh Business Centre/Carbonize Racing 1098S will at Victoria’s Winton Raceway, 30th May - 1st June 2008.
