--  450SX Class: Anaheim Race 1 Recap

Millsaps earned his fourth career 450SX Class victory at the Anaheim opener

For the fourth time in 450SX Class history Suzuki won the first race. Last time was Greg Albertyn in 1997 (’76, ’81, ’97, ’13).

Suzuki has only won the first and second races in a season once in (`81)

Millsaps became the 12th racer to win a 450SX Class race on a Suzuki and is the 11th different rider to win a 450SX Class race on two different brands (Honda and Suzuki)

Millsaps’ win marked Suzuki’s 59th 450SX Class victory

Millsaps also has the longest current consecutive start streak at 94; he has not missed a 450SX Class Main Event since Atlanta 2007. The longest streak of all time is Chad Reed at 116 consecutive starts from 2003-2010.

In 39 seasons of 450SX Class racing, one of the three podium finishers from the opening race has gone on to win the championship 32 times

In 2002, Ricky Carmichael finished 20th in the first race of the championship and came back to win the title by 35 points. In 2009, James Stewart finished 19th in the first race and came back to win the championship by four points. In 1999, Jeremy McGrath finished seventh in the first race and came back to win the title by 83 points. In 1990, Jeff Stanton finished sixth in the first race and came back to win the title by seven points. In 2013, Ryan Villopoto finished in 16th place, can he do what the aforementioned racers have accomplished despite trouble at the opening race of the season?

After missing most of last season and all of the motocross season with a back injury, Trey Canard finished second overall

Dungey finished third overall, giving KTM their 10th podium ever, marking Dungey’s 36th-career podium finish

Chad Reed earned his 130th top-five finish; it was his 12th consecutive season with a top-five finish

Weimer earned a fifth-place finish and after eight top-five finishes in 2012, in 2013 he is due to win his first 450SX Class victory

Dungey was the only former champion to finish on the podium

Ryan Villopoto’s 16th place finish was his worst since Jacksonville in 2011 when he failed to qualify for the Main Event

In 25 years of racing, the winner of opening race did not win the second race of the season. Stewart was the last racer to win the first two races of the season (2007). In 1975, Jimmy Ellis became the first racer to win the first two races of the season.

After an injury that kept him out of the season opener last year, Canard finished seventh in Phoenix; this year, following an injury, Canard finished second in his first race back
