Jonny Walker (UK) once again lived up to the expectations. The Red Bull and KTM
Enduro Factory rider showed a very convincing performance at the Beach Race -
the first of three races at the 2013 edition of Red Bull Sea to Sky in Kemer,
Turkey! Runner-up was Spain's Alfredo Gomez on his Husaberg TE300, followed by
his fellow countryman and Husaberg Extreme Racing Team manager Xavi Galindo who
came to race Red Bull Sea to Sky despite the fact that he had already ended his
career as an active Enduro rider.
Thousands of spectators gathered at the beach of Kemer to watch extraordinary
racing action on a sandy, motocross-like track. Multiple world champions like
Dougie Lampkin (UK, GASGAS) and almost the entire elite of Extreme Enduro lined
up for a Le Mans start. They had to do 20 minutes plus one lap with natural and
manmade obstacles and a high speed straight right at the waterfront.
The Kemer mayor Mustafa Gül started the Beach Race and Jonny Walker, who had won
the qualification heats in the morning immediately settled himself at the first
position which he never gave up during the fast and intense race. At the finish
he had a put a gap of 20 seconds on Alfredo Gomez who surprised the crowd with
his impressive speed since his background is Trial - a sport not really known
for explosive speed!
Xavi Galindo obviously still is in a good physical and mental condition. The
experienced Spaniard was able to secure the third position on his Husaberg ahead
of the battle between Homero Diaz (MEX, KTM) and Germany's Andreas "Letti"
Lettenbichler on his Husqvarna. Red Bull Sea to Sky 2013 - Forest Race
Jonny stoked to win the Beach Race again!
21 years old Jonny Walker from Keswick at the British Coast was really happy
having won the Beach race again: "So pumped to get the win in the Beach Race. I
managed to get a top five start and avoided most of the madness behind me.
During the first couple of laps I charged hard and got into the lead and then
just did my best to control the race. It was rough as hell out there, the track
was beaten up pretty badly and I just tried to stay loose on the gas. It feels
awesome to win that race 3 times now. Tomorrow is the Forest Race, I'm first off
so it'll be fun trying to open the track."
