Suzuki
recently added two new junior dirt models to their range. The DR-Z 125
and DR-Z 125L are basically the same, save for the fact that the 'L'
model features 50mm larger wheels making it more suitable for the taller
kids.
The seat height of the
smaller DR-Z 125 is roughly the same as Honda's XR100, 770mm, while the
larger 'L' model is 30mm higher at 800mm. Ground clearance is quite
generous at 245mm, or 275mm for the 'L'.
A 124cc 4-stroke single
cylinder engine provides the motivation and should prove very low
maintenance. Starting is by way of a kick-start lever and considering
the fact that the DR-Z offers a digital CDI ignition system starting
should be a breeze.
The DR-Z comes with a
5-speed gearbox complete with a manual clutch, just like the big bikes.
Braking is by way of a
single drum, front and rear, while the taller 'L' model scores a front
disc brake.
Both the DR-Z models
come in the attractive Champion Yellow colour scheme common to the whole
Suzuki off-road range in 2002.
A large, for this
class, 6.6 litre fuel tank should provide enough fuel for a whole day's
trail riding.
The DR-Z retails for $4,390 or $4,590 for the slightly larger disc brake
model and come with a 6-month warranty for added peace of mind.
Suzuki's DR models have a well earned reputation for unburstable
reliability and the 125 will be aiming to build on the tradition built
in previous years by the earlier DR 350 models and maintained in 2002 by
the latest DR-Z 400E.
