2002 Ducati Monster Range

For 2002 Ducati has introduced a renewed Monster range.

The Monster family is currently available in 5 different displacement versions, beginning with the 600 Dark, continuing with the brand new 620 i.e. model, the 750 i.e., the 900 i.e., up to the high performance 916cc S4. The family includes eight different standard colours, depending on the model.

The entire range, except for the 600 Dark, has been completely re-designed on the basis of the experience gained from the S4.

The most important changes have been made to the chassis and the engine, which now boasts electronic fuel injection on all models (except 600 Dark).
Furthermore, the 620 range includes the S version, featuring greater ground clearance, carbon fibre side panels and heat guards, aluminum swing arm and S4 type headlight fairing cover, while the 900S makes way for the new 900 i.e. whilst inheriting some of its most important details.

All models now feature electronic fuel injection (except 600Dark).

Power delivery on the newly injected 620 i.e. and 750 i.e., has changed radically, and allows a smoother power output and more comfortable ride for city use. At the same time it provides excellent response on more demanding country roads.

Another detail that deserves to be underlined is the use of a Brembo twin-disc braking system on all models including the 620 i.e. that guarantees stopping power in all conditions.

The newest feature is undoubtedly the new electronic fuel injection engine featured on the Monster 620 i.e. which, with 9 H.P. more than the previous version, resulting in a broader rpm range and an increased top speed, besides providing increased torque for greater flexibility in all situations.
By adopting this system also on the 750, the entire family is now available with electronic fuel injection (except M600Dark).

Even the valves have been increased in diameter on the 620 i.e. which, together with the new greater volume airbox, improve the engine's breathing, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

It is logical to think of a pairing a new engine with a new, more suitable frame.
In fact, this year Ducati, based on the success of the S4, has chosen to use a frame deriving from it on the entire range, which has increased torsion stiffness by more than 30%.

The 620 i.e. and the 620s i.e. feature the new frame, but with different seat heights. The 620 i.e. is the same as the 2001 model with a low seat height that is perhaps more useful for the growing number of enthusiasts among women, while the 620s i.e. features increased ground clearance for more sports orientated use.
As of this year, it is also possible to request a higher seat on the 620 i.e. or a lower seat on the 620s i.e. at the time of purchase.

Even the 750 i.e. features a reduced seat height, and it is also possible to change the seat height as above.

The new front forks have been re-designed on the 620 i.e., 750 i.e. and 900 i.e. Dark, while the 900 i.e. and the S4 feature a fully adjustable Showa front fork.

The rear suspension, which features a new Sachs rear shock with adjustable rebound damping and spring pre-load, now follows the set up of the award winning Superbike range.  Of course the S4 still features the tested fully adjustable Sachs. This, together with the aluminum swing arm mounted on the 620s, on the 900 i.e. and on the S4, highlights even more the ride and handling qualities of these models.

Furthermore, on the 620s i.e., 900 i.e. and S4 there is the possibility of changing the ride height of the bike independent of the spring pre-load, thereby allowing a customized set up according to individual taste.

All the versions, except for the 600 Dark, come with a new braking system with two 320 mm front discs which, thanks to the redesigned front forks, help to keep the bike stable in all braking conditions. The steering shaft has been enlarged from 25 to 40 mm resulting in increased stiffness and safety of the front end through turns.

Finally, all the versions feature an immobilizer as standard.  The new riding position, taken from the S4, is now integrated with new, more ergonomic and functional switch units, which enhance the entire range (except for the 600 Dark).

The entire range (except for the 600Dark)) feature a newly designed multi-functional electronic instrument panel.  Even while riding, on the digital display it is possible to view the oil temperature or the clock thanks to a special button.

Furthermore, it is possible to change the brightness of the instrument panel light, and, on the display, you can view the scheduled service indicator display.

The trip meter and the odometer feature liquid crystal displays and the immobilizer, which is standard, is built into the instrument panel with an automatic initial setting.
