2002 Ducati Sports-Touring Range
|
Since its birth in 1997, the ST family has been evolving up to the introduction, last year, of the ST4s, in order to offer the market a complete range, able to satisfy all the requests and needs of Sport Touring enthusiasts. The ST family includes three models (ST2, ST4, ST4s), each featuring a different 'character', with which Ducati meets the needs of the different types of Sport Touring clients. ST2: 'Entry level' of the Sport Touring segment, oriented mainly towards touring, at a competitive price. ST4: For the 'classic' Sport Tourer, the right compromise between Touring and Sport, the natural upgrade from the ST2. ST4s: Designed for a
Sport Touring rider more oriented towards a sport use, therefore wanting
not only comfort and versatility for long trips, but also performance
which will give full satisfaction even when used on the track. The ST2 is equipped with the 944cc two-valve, liquid cooled engine, which provides a maximum power of 83 HP at 8,500 rpm and a torque of 8.5 kgm at 6,500 rpm and is at the top of the segment in terms of fuel saving and fuel range, in all conditions. The ST4, features the 916cc four-valve, liquid cooled engine, characterized by a maximum power of 105 CV at 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 9 kgm at 7,500 rpm. Finally, the ST4s is equipped with, a 996cc four-valve engine deriving from the engine that competed in the 2000 Superbike world championship. It offers a maximum power of 117 HP at 8,750 rpm, a torque of 10 kgm at 7,000 rpm and values in line with those of many hyper-sport bikes. The frame of the Ducati ST models features high torsion rigidity, also linked to the "stressed member" function of the engine. On the entire range, the front suspension features 43mm upside down Showa forks, each with different characteristics, strictly correlated to the different 'orientation' of each of the three models of the family: · The ST2 is equipped
with a pre-load adjustable fork. This type of adjustment is necessary and
sufficient to adapt the bike to the load variations typical of touring
use. Furthermore, the ST4s
features 5-spoke Marchesini wheels, directly derived from the Ducati
Superbike, approximately 1 kg lighter than the other two models of the
family and hyper-sport tires (Pirelli Dragon Evo, Michelin Pilot Sport,
Dunlop D204) perfectly suitable for the performance and the mainly sport
use of this bike. The ST4s features 5 mm thick discs (vs. the 4 mm of the discs on the other two models of the family), which allow less overheating of the braking system, making it perfectly suitable for sport use. Furthermore, the ST4S is equipped with an Immobilizer anti-theft device (standard), which securely prevents vehicle startup if the special key with internal microchip is not used. This device does not require any special procedure by the user and it is an advantage in terms of safety, as far as the vehicle is concerned.
