This year, all Sportster models receive the popular small bullet-style turn signals first introduced in 2000 on the FXSTD. In addition, a more rigid exhaust flange connects the exhaust system to the cylinder heads, providing improved styling and a more durable exhaust system. Finally, a new fuel shut-off valve provides a more tactile feel between the on and off setting, and enhanced styling.

The Sportster 883 and 883 Hugger continue to bring new riders into the sport, and introducing them to the world of Harley-Davidson by combining fun and great value. The XL 53C Sportster Custom 53 returns with forward foot controls, custom handlebar risers and a sporty two-up seat.

The XL 1200S Sportster Sport is the epitome of performance – Harley style. For 2002, the Sportster Sport returns with its dual-spark ignition, high-compression heads, high-performance cams, tachometer, fully adjustable front and rear suspension and triple-disc, four piston brakes. Rounding out the Sportster family, the Sportster 1200 Custom carries on with forward controls, a slotted disc rear wheel and drag bars.

Harley-Davidson is set to launch a road-going tribute to its XR750 dirt track race bike: the Harley-Davidson Sportster XL883R. On sale later in the year will be available for one year only.

The XL 883R, based on the popular Sportster 883, has been specifically designed and engineered to replicate the famous dirt track racer. The race-inspired model features a dirt track race theme livery (in Harley-Davidson’s famous performance orange with black and white decals); an eye-catching chrome two-into-one exhaust system; wide XR750 dirt track handlebars; dual front disc brakes; a specially designed fastback styled seat; a black finish on the engine, oil tank, air cleaner cover and ignition switch cover; and short stem black mirrors. All combine to create a high profile motorcycle with great looks and a unique competition style, set to be extremely popular with race enthusiasts and style aficionados alike.
