For 2002, the Touring Family benefits from a new EFI system that is sure to further enhance the comfort of long distance riders. The new and advanced Softail-type EFI system rolls on power with finite precision while delivering a consistent idle, with improved sound quality. In addition to improving performance, the system also incorporates a new three-part temperature control strategy to keep riders cooler.

Also new for 2002, Touring models benefit from improved chassis rigidity via an enlarged and stiffer swingarm, retuned engine isolation mounts, a larger one-inch rear axle and a redesigned suspension. The new suspension uses cartridge-type front forks, removing the need for air adjustments. The re-tuned rear air shocks provide increased ride quality at all speeds, improved durability and easier operation. This new system retains the ability to adjust rear air pressure pre-load to accommodate widely varying loads while retaining plush ride quality. Because of the suspension changes, Touring models receive a new secondary drive belt and sprocket, modified brake systems and modified mufflers.

Touring models also receive a new self-lubing rear brake pedal that has been moved forward, for more comfortable foot positioning. Plus, a new fuel shut-off valve gives a more tactile feel between the on and off setting and enhanced styling.

The FLHRCI Road King Classic now joins the rest of the family by wearing new Dunlop Harley-Davidson Series tyres. Cruise control is also now standard on the Road King Classic.
