Bombardier
was founded sixty years ago in Canada and first came to fame when they
produced the world’s first snowmobile. Now the company not only
manufactures snowmobiles and quad ATV machines but also produces jet
aircraft and rail transport equipment. The company offers a comprehensive range of utility and recreational quads ranging from 50cc right up to 650cc. Shown here is the junior four-stroke DS90 machine. Aimed at the junior market the DS90 offers numerous safety features; Floorboards rather than pegs help keep feet and ankles safe, adjustable speed-limiter and for the parents peace of mind a key operated ignition switch. A four-speed clutchless gearbox ensures the four-stroke DS90 has a ratio available for any situation. Rough terrain should pose no problems as the DS90 offers fully independent front suspension and monoshock rear. Stopping the 108kg beast is a pair of drum brakes up front, supplemented by a single drum brake at the rear. Bombardier also offers a two-stroke version of the DS90. This machine has a fully automatic transmission and also offers electric start. Two-stroke machines normally use a little more fuel and Bombardier have allowed for that fact by fitting a six litre tank to the two-stroke version. The four-stroke has a five litre cell. The smallest machine in the Bombardier range is the DS50. A 50cc two-stroke engine provides the motivation and, like the two-stroke 90, drive is transferred to the rear tyres by a CVT auto. Compared to the similar capacity Japanese offerings the Bombardier models are a little larger and feature a sturdy nudge bar to help prevent damage from those inevitable impacts. Expect to pay around $2,990 for the DS50, the two-stroke DS90 for $3,490 and the four-stroke 90 for $3,990. All come with a six-month factory warranty.
