2002 Triumph Sprint RS

Triumph is claiming 120 horsepower from an improved version of the 955cc triple cylinder engine. Most of the performance increase has come from extensive port work on the 12 valve cylinder head that now employs slightly larger inlet valves. Bumping up the compression ratio from 11.2 to 12.0:1 should also improve things markedly, especially in regards to throttle response.

A larger reshaped airbox feeds the new closed-loop fuel injection system, which features smaller, lighter injectors. The closed-loop system features an oxygen sensor that monitors and adjusts the air/fuel ratio at varying engine speeds to optimise engine performance, while compact, light plug-top ignition coils provide high intensity sparks. The fuel injection mapping is tuned for mid-range torque.

The twin-spar aluminium frame, twin-sided swing arm, brakes and suspension remain unchanged.

Acidic Yellow and Jet Black are the 2002 colours.
