Further details have
emerged on Honda's heavily revised 2003 CBR 600. Honda state that
the new CBR 600 takes a lot of
design
cues from Valentino Rossi's MotoGP dominating RC211V.
Honda also say the
following, "single-minded intent to
restore the 'CBR' name as the undisputed high-performance benchmark of the
middleweight Supersport class, this new creation was given Honda's famed
'RR' mark of distinction, which currently graces the popular and highly
tuned CBR RR FireBlade."
In the looks department the most immediate departure from the norm' are
the striking new headlights and underseat muffler. The Ram-Air intakes
have been modified and feed to a repositioned airbox. The new exhaust
system snakes under the engine before rising up and over the rear tyre to
a stainless steel muffler.
Honda
claim the engine is all new. After some CAD calculations Honda found that
the Bore & Stroke was ideal in it's current ratio and so those
measurements remain the same. Engine width has been reduced at the
crankshaft through the repositioning of many components. Moving the
crankshaft starter gear has realised a 3-degree improvement in available
lean angle.
