A totally new chassis consists of four major components: A cast steering head section and cast swingarm pivot section, welded together with two cast truss sections, one on each side.  There is nothing unusual about sand-cast steering head and swingarm pivot sections connected by main frames built from welded up extrusions or stampings.  But the SV's main frame sections are different, each are made as a single precision die casting using a new high-vacuum-mould process that eliminates bubbles and porosity in large castings.

Because the main frame sections are produced as a single die-casting instead of being welded together from smaller pieces, consistency is enhanced.  The main frame sections are also lighter than conventional welded sections.

The aluminium-alloy swingarm is built up of cast pivot sections and axle carriers combined with extruded arms, and works with a single piggyback shock and progressive link.  Spring preload, rebound and compression damping are all adjustable.  Rear wheel travel is 130mm, the wheelbase is 1,435mm.

Up front large 46mm conventional forks are also fully adjustable for preload, compression and rebound.  Travel at this end is 120mm.

Four opposed-piston calipers clamp on 310mm disc at the front of the machine while a dual-piston caliper works on a 220mm disc at the rear.
