Aprilia have released another trendy
scooter to their comprehensive range with the arrival of the new
Mojito 150 Custom. Powered by a four-stroke single cylinder engine the 115kg Mojito should offer modest performance from its air-cooled engine. Where the engine should shine is in fuel economy with the 8.5 litre tank certainly promising to keep you zipping around town for some time. However I would imagine the Mojito would not be the best scoot around if you aim to travel far and wide. It’s trendy styling with swept back handlebars and the lack of a screen or any weather protection around the running boards would make long distances or inclement weather far from pleasant. Of course electric start means you can be up and going straight after you slide the machine off its centre-stand. And with four-stroke power there is no messy two-stroke oil reservoir to keep topped up and nice clean emissions from the large matt black muffler. And the centrifugal clutch means operation requires a simple twist and go philosophy with no gears to worry about. Aprilia claim the plentiful chrome and sweeping lines are designed to hark back to the styling of American cars from the fifties. Umm, yeah, righto… More like on drugs from the seventies I would think… But overall the machine if a fairly good looking scoot and not too over the top. And of course if you want to slap a nice flower from cyclegraphics.com on its flanks like this one then you can really get in to the flower power theme. The huge seat promises a comfortable ride while the seat height, at 755mm, is reasonably tall for a scooter of this capacity. A 190mm single disc with dual-piston caliper slows the show and is aided by a 140mm drum brake at the rear. A pair of forks provide 80mm of suspension travel up front and are aided by a leading link. A single shock helps keep the rear wheel under control over the numerous speed bumps that now grace our roads. Ample 130/70-12 rubber at the rear and a 120/70-12 at the front should provide plenty of grip. Optional accessories which can be added to the $6,600 purchase price include a top case, luggage rack and anti-theft lock. The new machines are available in Varadero Blue or an interesting Aprilia Black. Specifications - Aprilia Mojito 150
