The Official Charity of
the 2002 SKYY VODKA Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix is the Powercor
LifeFlight Helicopter Emergency Medical & Rescue Service - a non-profit
critical care air ambulance for children. LifeFlight is a Charity that raises funds to keep their children’s medical helicopter “in the air” to help the Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS), who provide specialist treatment to critically ill newborn babies and children throughout Victoria. In effect, providing a
paediatric and/or neonatal intensive care bed to every regional Victorian
hospital. Once stabilised, these children are flown back to Melbourne’s
specialist intensive care facilities at the Royal Women’s and Royal
Children’s Hospitals by the LifeFlight team. Last year the Powercor LifeFlight helicopter flew 311 critical care missions. LifeFlight’s BK-117 twin-jet-engine helicopter is also provided to Air Ambulance Victoria in a redundancy capacity for assisting with road accidents and other emergencies when Air Ambulance helicopters are unable to meet the demand. This arrangement helps to ensure every Victorian receives a life-saving helicopter when they need it most. The Powercor LifeFlight helicopter is also equipped with specialist search and rescue and fire-fighting equipment to assist the Australian Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, local police and Victorian fire services during periods where the LifeFlight helicopter is not already undertaking medical tasks. LifeFlight will provide one of their medical helicopters to support the safety of the SKYY VODKA Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island on October 18-20. As the Official Charity for the 2002 SKYY VODKA Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, LifeFlight has launched the “Ride of Your Life” raffle to help raise funds to “keep them in the air”. The Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Mick Doohan and various other supporters such as Honda Motorcycles Australia, Herald Sun, Spidi, Suomy, AlpineStars, The Honda Australia Rider Training School, Samsung and InGraphics Design have all assisted LifeFlight with prizes and other support for the raffle. Funds raised will contribute to the purchase of a new intensive care baby cot valued at $140,000. Tickets in the “Ride of your Life” fundraiser raffle are currently available via telephone on 1300 888 482 and the LifeFlight website at www.lifeflight.org.au, as well as Victorian Honda motorcycle dealerships and H.A.R.T. rider training in Tullamarine. Tickets will also be sold at the HONDA stand during the 2002 Motorcycle Grand Prix weekend and throughout the circuit by the “LifeFlight Team”. First prize is the Honda VTR1000 SP-2 motorcycle donated by Honda Motorcycles and signed by Australia’s five-time 500cc world champion Mick Doohan, and Spidi, AlpineStars and Suomy motorcycle gear, and HART rider training lessons.
First Prize and the Book Buyers Prize draws of the “Ride of Your Life” raffle will be drawn at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit at 4pm on Sunday, October 20, just after the MotoGP race. |
