-- A4DE postponed, due to torrential
rain Organisers of the 2011 Yamaha Yamalube Cycra GYTR Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE) today announced they have had to postpone the race, due to severe and uncharacteristic rainfall to the Mackay region. The Gum Valley Motorcycle Club’s, John Hand, said the event would now be held July 7th to 10th, 2011. “Our average rainfall for March is 197ml,” Hand said. “In the last two days alone, we’ve had 300ml of rain. “For the month of March, we’ve had over one meter and for the period of January to March, a ridiculous three meters of rain fall. “And it isn’t about to let up. The forecast says we’ve got a 75 percent chance of rain for the next 21 days. “The parc ferme area at the Koumala State School is under water, a lot of Mackay city is under water, all of the creeks are several meters over the bridges and there are landslides occurring in many of the areas where we had marked out trail sections. “It is unfortunate that we’ve had to make this decision, but as you can see, we didn’t have a choice. “It wasn’t possible to run the event, and even if it had been, racing in such treacherous conditions wouldn’t be safe for riders or good for the environment. “There was no way we were going to be able to run it, let alone to the calibre of what has been planned. “We feel this is the best possible outcome for riders - July is always drier, cooler, and the new dates still fall within school holidays. “We realise this postponement might create problems for riders with accommodation and holidays already planned. “Mackay Tourism has agreed to help people re-book or transfer accommodation bookings, or find new accommodation. “Please don’t hesitate to contact them or us for assistance (all contact info at www.a4de.com). “Again, we apologise for any inconvenience. We are looking forward to holding an exceptional event and hopefully seeing you all on July 7th to 10th.” Entry fees will automatically be transferred to the new date. If any riders are now keen to enter, please contact Ann Hand at gumvalley@mcs.net.au. The 2011 Yamaha Yamalube Cycra GYTR A4DE will be held at Mackay (QLD) from July 7th to 10th. The annual Yamaha Yamalube Cycra GYTR A4DE is the biggest dirt bike enduro event in the Southern Hemisphere. It contributes an estimated $5 million annually to the economy of the host area.
