--  ASBK Teams preview WSBK

-- Honda

With round one of the WSBK just a few days away, Honda Australia is looking forward to supporting the Team Honda Racing riders as they compete alongside WSBK Pata Honda Team at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on February 22-24, 2013.

After revealing the new team livery at their launch last week, Team Honda Racing riders Jamie Stauffer and Josh Hook are looking forward to competing on the world stage as wildcard entries in the World Superbike and World Supersport categories respectively. Months of preparation have gone into the CBR1000RR and CBR600R to get them ready for this unique opportunity.

Already an experienced rider, Jamie Stauffer is very much looking forward to the event; “To have the chance to race against the world's best Superbike riders starts my 2013 season off with a terrific challenge.”

Up and coming rider Josh Hook is thrilled to be competing on the world stage; "To start my year off at the World Superbikes competing as a wildcard alongside the world's best Supersport riders is fantastic. The guys at Team Honda Racing are working hard to give me a competitive motorcycle to compete head to head.”

Jonathan Rea is once again riding for the Honda WSBK team Pata Honda along with fellow British rider, Leon Haslam. The team have completed several test sessions on board their CBR1000RR Superbikes in preparation for the first round of the season at the Phillip Island Circuit.

The WSBK event, which is sure to draw impressive audience numbers, will also showcase a number of Honda Motorcycles on the Honda stand in the AMCN Superbike Expo. The yet to be released CBR500R and CB500F LAMS approved motorcycles will be a highlight of the Honda display. Due for Australian arrival in April, these two models which will be joined one month later by the CB500X will offer a new generation of riders excellent handling, advanced environmental performance, innovative designs and complete convenience.

While inspiration will be high for the CBR1000RR Superbike machines, visitors will be able to take a close look at Honda’s 20th anniversary standard CBR1000RR which offers riders unbeatable performance on both track and road. Joining this will be Honda’s iconic Goldwing, the VFR1200X and NC700SA which were released in 2012, and the brand new striking Moriwaki CBR250R and more.

Honda is a company powered by dreams and no dream fuels the human spirit like the challenge of racing. Help Honda celebrate racing during the 2013 Australian World Superbikes at the Phillip Island Circuit on February 22-24, 2013.

Matt Walters Heads a Talented Team of Kawasaki Supported Racers at Phillip Island This Weekend

While most of the attention will be on championship hopeful, Kawasaki Racing Team’s Tom Sykes and his team mate Loris Baz at the opening round of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island this weekend, there will also be a strong representation of Kawasaki Australia supported riders doing battle in other classes.

Rover Coaches/ Kawasaki Connection rider Matt Walters will start his 2013 series campaign at Phillip Island competing in the ASBK Pro Stock class. Kawasaki is also pleased to continue support of 2012 ASBK 250cc Production Class champion, Luke Burgess, who steps up to the 600 Supersport class in 2013 on board a Ninja ZX-6R. Luke Burgess, from Mackay Kawasaki in QLD will race alongside other Kawasaki supported riders in the ASBK series in 2013 including Evan Byles from SA Motorcycles and 18 year old Michael Lockart from NSW who will both race Ninja ZX-6R’s in the Supersport class.

Matt Walters was to be joined in the Pro Stock class at Phillip Island by fellow Kawasaki Australia supported and Ninja ZX-10R rider Sean Condon. The Bikebiz Kawasaki rider from NSW unfortunately injured his shoulder in a practice crash ruling him out of competition this weekend. Sean will undergo a shoulder reconstruction soon and is looking to be back on board his Ninja ZX-10R in time for the 4th round of the Formula Xtreme series.

Matt Walters will look to add another series championship to his name this year after taking home the 2010 Australian 600cc Superstock Championship on board a Ninja ZX-6R. The Rover Coaches/ Kawasaki Connection Racing Team rider who will compete in the Australian Formula Xtreme Pro Stock class on board a Ninja ZX-10R and selected ASBK races throughout 2013, feels he is fit and ready to race amongst the best in the country this year.

Matt Walters say’s, “I have been training hard all off season and I feel fantastic. I have really put my head down at the gym and have worked hard on my cardio fitness and strength. I doubt I have ever felt fitter and I can’t wait to get the season underway.”

Walters enjoyed success in his most recent lead up race to the World Super’s at Phillip Island, winning the first round of the St George Motorcycle Club’s NSW Clubman series.

Team Owner/Manager, Carl Walters say’s, “Matt has always had the speed but at times his fitness may have let him down. I’m very proud of the work he has put in during the off season and I’ve never seen him in better shape. He will be more competitive this year than he ever has been. Of course we couldn’t do it without the continued support of Rover Coaches and Kawasaki Australia. It also gives me great comfort to know that Matt will have some of the best safety equipment available in his new Bell helmet, RST leathers and Alpinestars boots and gloves.”

With the support of Kawasaki Australia, Matt Walters, Luke Burgess, Evan Byles and Michael Lockart will all do battle on board Kawasaki Ninja machinery at Phillip Island this weekend with Matt competing in an ASBK Pro stock field where the Ninja ZX-10R accounts for almost 1/3 of the entries.

Kawasaki wishes the best of luck to all competitors.
