-- Anthony West Double winner in the Qatar International Road Racing
Championship Starting from the pole position, Anthony West riding a Suzuki bike won the first race of Qatar International Road Racing Championship in a tricky track conditions. The QMMF Racing Team rider was leading all the race from the start and despite of the windy conditions of today in the track he managed to finished in first position with a gap of 7.477 seconds. Yamaha mounted Bradley Smith came home in second place after starting from the second row of the grid. In the early stages of the race Smith slowly built up speed and by lap seven had closed the gap down to Australian race leaders, West and Alex Cudlin. West the eventual winner ahead of Smith and defending Champion Cudlin crossing the line for third. German rider Nina Prinz made an excellent start from the third position and was battling in the front group the first part of the race but due to an electrical problem with her bike she had to retire in the 7th lap.The Qatari rider Nasser Al Malki with his BMW bike finished in the fourth position in the race. In the Losail Asian Road Racing Championship class, the winner of his category was the Indian rider Rajini Krishnan, finishing in seven position overall. The second position was also for the Indian rider Deepak Ravikumar and the Hungarian rider Nikolett Kovacs finished in third position in LARRS category. Anthony West: "I had a good feeling and I tried to keep my rhythm and stand on the track as there was a horrible wind all day. I am happy that I didn't had to fight too much because I got a good gap with the rest." Bradley Smith: "I had some clutch problems and my start was not good. I made a mistake in the first laps and I run off the track so I lost time to be back. Then I had a good battle with Alex and I hope to resolve the problems in the clutch and be closer to West in second race." Alex Cudlin: "The race was good, I enjoyed with the battle with Bradley. At the beginning of the race I was slow, not good feeling with the front of the bike. It took me some laps to get into the rhythm but then Anthony was gone. The last two laps I lost a little bit and some mistakes make me finished in third but I am happy to race against riders of MotoGP and Moto2." In the second race Anthony West was again the winner with a gap of more than 15-seconds ahead of Nasser Al Malki who finished in second place. Nina Prinz and Bradley Smith both had some mechanical problems and retired. In the LARRS race 2, the winner of this category was again the Indian rider Rajini Krishnan and second position for Deepak Ravikumar. The Algerian rider Walid Benterki finished in the third position. The next round for Qatar International Road Racing Championship will be on 22nd and 23rd March. |
