-- Bimota changes hands
-- Australian Importer buoyed by more secure financial footing for Bimota
The long term future of boutique Italian motorcycle manufacturer Bimota has been
secured with news that the company has been purchased by a Swiss company.
The purchase comes as the company celebrates four decades of its founding by
Valerio Bianchi, Guiseppe Morri, and Massimo Tamburini and will allow Bimota to
continue its new model roll out, including its exciting new supercharged model.
Australian and New Zealand Bimota distributor Urban Moto Imports is excited by
the news that the exclusive motorcycle manufacturer has secured an even more
exciting future thanks to the new owner and its plans for the brand.
The new owner is Italian based operating through a Swiss company and has
promised that Bimota will remain under Italian management and continue
operations at its headquarters in Rimini. It has also confirmed and is committed
to major refurbishment and renovation of the Bimota factory.
The latest chapter in the Bimota story follows its rebirth in 2002 under the
stewardship of Robert Comini, which saw new life breathed into the famous marque
with a stream of new and exciting models that have cemented its position as
Italy's leading manufacturer of exclusive motorcycles.
According to Joseph Elasmar, the CEO of Urban Moto Imports, the Australian
distributor of Bimota, the entry of the new owner has been months in the making
and couldn't have come at a better time as the capital injection will help keep
Bimota at the forefront of technology with the imminent release of one of the
most advanced hand-made superbikes in the world in 2014.
Bimota staff at the company HQ are excited at the energy and direction the new
owner brings to the company and realise this will take Bimota to the next stage
of its evolution.
"Robert Comini's passion has driven Bimota to where it is today and it is time
for the next evolution of the company and its 40 year heritage of motorcycle
passion, craftsmanship and engineering," said Joseph Elasmar.
"UMI Australia is the largest distributor for Bimota around the globe and from
our perspective this is very exciting news as it means new models, technology
and a long term future for Bimota, he said.
"It is business as usual at UMI with shipments including the new Bimota DB8
OroNero, expected to arrive in Australia next week. Preparations are also well
in hand for our annual expo of Bimota models at the upcoming MotoGP at Phillip
Island in mid-October," he added.
"UMI is going from strength to strength in Australia and NZ with the growth and
release of new models across all of our premium brands so we are excited by this
new phase of Bimota's history," he concluded.
Bimota has a number of new bikes in the pipeline including supercharged models
currently completing R&D and a BMW powered model.
